Symptom: http: ActivePerl overflowFor several weeks in early 1995 I saw intermittent blank spaces when viewing pages where the Adsense ads are supposed to show. At the same time the page loading progress bar at the bottom of the screen has moved slowly or stopped and frozen. A brief pop up has sometimes occurred, in the bottom right hand corner saying Symantec Norton intrusion detection and on investigation this has shown HTTP Active perl overflow intrusion detection. |
||
Examining the detail of the intrusion alert shows that the Google ads were the cause. By going to intrusion alert advanced setting there is long list of types on intrusion. It is possible to turn off the HTTP ActivePerl overflow detection.
Turn off the HTTP Active perl overflow intrusion detection. You need to open Norton Internet security. Go to intrusion detection and under advanced set up unclick the HTTP perl overflow detection.
I went back and set the HTTP ActivePerl overflow detection back on and the problem of the ads not showing reappeared intermittently. Turning off the ActivePerl overflow detection removed the problem of the Google ads not showing.
The intermittent nature is not yet explained. It may have something to do with having previously run some javascript on the same page.
If you have similar experience, please say if you think that other javascript higher up on the same page may be the cause, or if running some javascript on a previously viewed page sets up the fault condition. email me at eric@satsig.net
