8.  CSIR Plans to Receive FOSSFA Secretariat

The Free Software and Open Source Foundation for Africa (Fossfa) secretariat will move from Kenya to the Meraka Institute in South  Africa this year.  The official handover is due to take place at Idlelo 2, the Second African Conference on Digital Commons to be held in Nairobi, Kenya, in  late February.

"The taking over of the FOSSFA secretariat is a natural progression of  things," says Nhlanhla Mabaso, head of the Council for Scientific and  Industrial Research (CSIR) Open Source Centre, which is based at the  Meraka Institute.  "The Nguni translation of 'Idlelo' means the same as 'Meraka' - common  grazing ground - so it comes as no surprise that the announcement of  the collaboration of Fossfa and Meraka will happen at Idlelo 2," says  Mabaso.
