Does the following describe your communications network problem?

You have a network requirement:

• Involving links of 8 kbit/s - 2 Mbit/s with nodes scattered anywhere within Moscow, Norway, Iceland, UK, Canary Islands, North Africa coast, Middle East, Tajikstan.  In other words, "In Europe and much of the surrounding area"
• On the outer singleton branches there is a need for network restoration during terrestrial failures.
• Overloaded terrestrial links need additional capacity immediately, pending terrestrial upgrade.
• New remote nodes need connecting quickly, pending terrestrial provision.
• New links may only be required temporarily and capacity required is speculative.
• Growth is required in small increments.

The satellite network solution:

Provide VSATs at each node with data channel units connected to spare connections on your data routers.   In the event of satellite capacity being required between sites, a 'data call' is set up and capacity provided immediately, at whatever bit rate, for as long as required.  It is as simple as that...
The VSATs will be typically 1.8m diameter at most remote sites but perhaps 2.4m or 3.8m diameter at main traffic nodes or at the outer edge of the satellite beam coverage.
