we are trying to reset the password on a linkstar terminal. We made a serial cable to rj11 connection from a PC to the linkstar but could not still establish a connection.
We think we need a host name for this and possibly have not got the procedure well
Please we need your help and suggestions

pls try to be more expilicit.
did you connect a cross over cable to the linkstar modem and convert the macaddress well enough.
Please bear in mind that most recent product line of the RCST uses the following default ip add to telnet into the RCST 10.1.-.- unlike the former 10.0.-.-. take caare of this to know if it can solve ur problem.
But you can explain what you want to achieve in details so we can know a way to help.

LINKSTAR Modem - Password Unlock
Telnet Password Unlock Procedure

If you have forgotten your password for full Telnet Access, please use the following sequence and procedure to unlock the system. If your unit is under a lease agreement you may not be authorised to do this, doesn’t apply to owned devices. Make one of these cables, and open the RCST. Inside there is a serial connector to which you can connect using this cable decribed below.

Once you connect, you can get direct access, and use the
passwd -u root -p newpassword command to reset it.


Linkstar Serial Cable

Only the middle 4 pins are used (use a 4 pin connector phone plug) Looking at the phone plug with the clip facing away from you.


pin 1 goes to pin 5 on the serial connector
pin 2 goes to pin 2 on the serial connector
pin 3 goes to pin 3 on the serial connector
pin 4 not used

some loopbacks on the serial connector

7 and 8 are looped
1 and 4 are looped
6 and 4 are looped

I will also help if you provide us several other further informations.

I am trying to open Linkstar modem but I could not

I log in as guest and I can not change the setting of the modem

by the way I tried the COM-->RJ11 cable connection and it did not work AND THE Connection of the pin as following

COM                       RJ11
Pin 5                        Pin 1
Pin 2                        Pin 2
Pin 3                        Pin 3
not connectrd          Pin4

and I used 4 pin telephone plug
 
when I connected them and switch on the modem it started to read but I could not type any thing after that

I have a copy from the responce of the modem if you want me to send it to you

Just so everyone knows for future reference. When the instructions tell you to LOOP the wires it means to LOOP the wires. The programing will not work properly unless it reads the connections as they are suppost to be.
Learned From Mistake!

I know how to unlock the link star terminal.

I found out that you had some problem in December 2004 unlocking a linksat modem, I want to know if you're able to resolve the problem, and if you did, how?

I had a linksat modem, that I purchased from an ISP, I was able to unlock the RCST, but I can not get the modem activated by my new ISP, we're now thinking that maybe this first ISP have a PIN on the modem, which sounded like what you went through in 2004.

Please if you're able to resolve the problem, or you know how we could resolve the problem.

I would be obliged if you could give me any assistance to finally complete the unlocking of the modem to be able to use it.
