Title: Sky FX
Post by fritzdick on Jan 30th, 2006 at 4:02pm
I am just beginning to look into satellite internet service.
I certainly do need some faster service than the maximum speed of 24kbps my dial-up ISP provides.  DSL and cable is not available to me.
I have been exploring the service of Direcway, and while doing so, I have come across a reference to the one-way satellite service that Sky FX provides at about half the mothly cost of Dway.
Is there any forum concerning Sky FX that I can read or join to learn more about the pros and cons of this service?
Thanks for your consideration in answering.

Hello,

I have spoken to some people who have used Sky FX and heartd nothing but great things.  The company is still up and coming so I do not know of any forums yet.  They have a website very easy to view with a dial up connection skyfx.us which explains the benefits of one way satellite service.  Good luck!

i have been useing sky fx for the last 2 weeks.... all i can say is WOW  !!!!!  my speed with old dial up was  download 23 kbps  up 144 .......... with sky fx it is averging 650 down and still around the 110 up mark .....  i can watch video stuff like watching t.v.  .....  big picture files load right NOW .....
i installed the dish myself, in 15 degree temps... stuck it up , found sat. in about 20 mins....... i'm getting a signal of 75-80%..... if all anyone can get is dial up  then they should have SKY FX !!!!!   best $40 a month i have ever spent .....
there techs are great too.... i had a computer problem, not there problem and they took a ton of time to work thru it ......

Nice to hear good things about satellite internet once in a while. It's an unfortunate statistic that a majority of satellite internet forum participants fall into the the whiners and complainers category.

I must question your numbers though. Conventional dial-up (v90)  is not capable of more than 33.6 kbps send , v92 no more than 44 kbps. Neither is capable of more than 53 kbps receive. How did you come up with that "up 144..."? And since SkyFX uses conventional dialup to send, the same 33.6 (or 44)  kbps cap applies. What method did you use to come up with that "110 up mark"?

Or has SkyFx begun offering 2-way satellite broadband access when I wasn't looking?
