Title: Help on finding AMC3 DirecWay sat
Post by Wickie on Jul 26th, 2006 at 9:03pm
I tried for 2 days to find the AMC3 for DirecWay (DW6000)
All i get is a signal strenght of 30 and doesn't go higher, i seen in other forum topic that i am probably pointing to wrong sat.
Someone had the same issue or can help me out ?

Thanks.

How do you know you're satellite/transponder assignment is AMC3?  Are you trying to commission a previously used DW6000 system? Have you check with HughesNet to make sure the modem isn't blacklisted?

Had this service for almost 3 years so it is not blacklisted, etc
Tech support (Earthlink) told me i am on AMC3 (87W) and also showing in Control Ctr.

If the signal peaks up to 30 in a particular direction and then drops down again I would be confident you have found a satellite (or possibly the sun).

If your receive carrier frequency tuning, symbol and  polarisation angle are correct then you have the wrong satellite.  Try moving nearer south and up a bit to check the next satellite and so on - or the other way and down a bit.

I would advise checking the tuning, symbol rate and polarisation angles.  Then set elevation really accurately using the dish scale and sweep the dish boldly across in azimuth.  Only when you pass the correct satellite will the level will go above 30.   Figures up to 30 are just power measurements which might arise from any source, such any satellite.   Figures from 30 upwards relate to wanted carrier signal quality, which is not the same thing as noise power.

If your polarisation is in error by 45 deg you might be pointing at the correct satellite and wanted carrier and get the full wanted power (comprising half the wanted carrier plus half the interfering cross-pol signal) but with zero signal quality.  i.e. C/N ratio= 0 dB !

Best regards, Eric.

Wait....don't turn/tune/adjust/move anything just yet. Let me get this straight first. You're an existing customer - and yet you're now trying to "find" your satellite(?) Did your dish get moved somehow? Because otherwise I'm unclear about the problem, so let's get to some basics here.

So far I've got the fact that your modem says it's seeing a signal level of 30. What transponder does it say is supposed to be giving you this level? What TX/RX Error codes are being displayed in the user interface? Did you have a signal, then it just went away - and you're trying to find it again? Have you moved the dish yourself?

My dish was moved, i made sure the pole is level again but i just cant find the correct signal back. I am not sure what the correct setting should be for my zipcode 74016.

thanks for all help.

Give this new page a try https://www.satsig.net/maps/satellite-tv-dish-pointing-usa.htm

I only made it last week and it would be nice to know if it works OK.

Best regards, Eric.

Update; Still no luck finding satellite, highest signal strength only 13. When i move dish strength 9 - 13.
I made sure all settings are correct, pole is level, etc.
No clue what to do next besides calling installer...

Are you working without an installation manual? If so, something here ( https://www.copperhead.cc/dwayman.htm ) may help. The Hughes software is very slow to respond to changes in receives signal level (RSL). Actually, I think Hughes might call it SQF (signal quality factor maybe ?). As such, you must be very slow and deliberate in varying your antenna angles. No more than a quarter inch at a time in any direction, then a wait of no less than 10 seconds to make sure that the change  shows up in your RSL feedback.
