Title: help in pointing dish in Los Angeles, USA
Post by ethio_sud on Mar 10th, 2007 at 11:37pm
i have 90cm GEOSATpro dish, Mercury II receiver, with HH-120 motor. i found some infor about latitude and longitude online. it said latitude 34.028 N and longitude 118.281, elevation 50.6, but when i tried it , and dish pointing to 168 deg (on compass) the signal level 40% but signal quality 1-4%, no matter what i do to the dish, these numbers won't change. even when i took the dish and put it upside down. i really need, what do you think is the problem?

This calculator https://www.satsig.net/maps/satellite-tv-dish-pointing-usa.htm is suitable for people in the USA.

Since you have a polar mount, write down the main polar axis angle and the small downward tilt of the beam needed.

Look at this example: https://www.satsig.net/polar-mount-4.htm which may be similar.

With the motor centralised, concentrate on aiming the whole antenna mount at the group of satellites at 119 west, which is almost due south of your location (118.2 west longitude).   Once you have achieved that, all the satellites across the sky should become visible, using the motor.

Best regards, Eric.

the reciver has already the satellites programed to it. you just pick any satellite you wat from receiver and the motor will take it to that satellite. i don't know if there is any think else i have to do.i did everything but still didn't get signal. i don't understand why signal level varies from 0-45% but signal quality rmains at about 2%. i used one of those small compass that came with installation package. how would i know if the dish is exactly pointing where i want it? i hold the compass tried to point the dish as best as i could. i don't know if this is good enough. then i moved the dish slightly left and right looking for signal, but so far no signal at all. and i looked online no installers in los angeles, ca area
