Title: Satellite dish pointing - iDirect and iSite ?
Post by zandi_pilot on Apr 15th, 2007 at 10:43pm
Hello,

I have a question about getting an iDirect 3100 dish pointed. We have 2, using Andrews 1.2m dishes. Our service is through ssi-iraq -> Talia. Here is the issue:

Originally, we set both of these up ourselves. We put them together, pointed them using the iSite software, called and did the cross-polarization. Everything worked fine. Recently, we had a pretty severe storm with high winds. After, 1 of the 2 systems will not connect.

Now for the odd part. When I connect to the modems with the iSite software and try to do the antenna pointing, I get nothing for voltage on the meter. I have the tx cable disconnected at the dish side. Power down the modem, disconnect the tx cable, re-boot the modem, connect with iSite. No voltage. None at all. We don't even get the red with low voltage. We then tried it with the dish that was working. Still no voltage. Anyone have any ideas on why?

We have also plugged the modem that is working into the cables from the dish that is not working. The modem works on that dish, too. This makes me think there is an issue with the first modem. But we still don't see any voltage on the iSite, with either modem on either dish. I am very confused by this.

Any help that can be provided would be greatly appreciated. I am very new to this.

Are you sure you are using the right version of iSite?  If your network operator upgraded the system, the old iSite might not work properly.

CHECK IF YOU MODEMS HAS DHCP CONFIGURED ON THEM. IF THEY ARE ? YOU WILL HAVE TO ALLOW YOUR SYSTEM TO GET THE IP ADDRESS AUTOMATICALLY FROM THE MODEM INSTEAD OF ASSIGNING AN IP ADDRESS.

TRY telnet 0 and watch the signal strengths as it changes to align your dish. It ranges from 0.3 to 25v.
