Title: Problem in pointing
Post by SMP07 on Apr 21st, 2007 at 6:51pm
I don't understand why I shouldn't lock to the outbound having done all the settings on the Prodelin 2.4M antenna and pointing to IS905 from my geo location 3.11N 43.65E gives 13deg elevation and 268deg azimuth and using 22.6deg offset.
I am getting 4V only on the iSite, not more.
Can someone help?

Using https://www.satsig.net/maps/lat-long-finder.htm

I suspect that the problem is the low elevation angle.

First set your dish so that the front face is vertical.  The beam elevation is then 22.6 deg.

Try to tilt the top of the dish forwards by 9.2 deg  (Note 22.6-9.2=13.4)  If you dangle a nut on a string from the top of the dish down the front then the distance at the bottom should be about 40 to 42cm.

The bottom back edge of the dish and the pole will be very close and if your pole has added diagonal bracing then you may have problems.   Hopefully it will just be possible.   If you really can't get the bottom of the dish back far enough, because the bottom of the dish hits the pole or steelwork, then you need to change the steelwork or remount the dish upside down.  In this case start with the dish front face vertical with the feed arm at the top.  The beam is now minus 22.6 deg downwards into the ground.  Tilt the dish top backwards by 22.6 deg.  The beam is now horizontal towards the horizon and beam elevation is zero.
Now increase elevation a further 13.4 deg.  Beam elevation is now 13.4 deg.

Best regards, Eric.

IF THE PROBLEM PERSIST TRY LOCKING YOUR DISH WITH A SPECTRUM ANALYZER. CALCULATE THE ELEVATION AS IT WAS STATED BY ERIC.MAKE SURE YOU GET A LOCK WITH A SPECTRUM ANALYZER.
CONNECT YOUR MODEM AND SEE IF THERE WILL BE A RX LOCK, IF THERE IS STILL NO RX LOCK REPOST FOR FURTHER TROUBLESHOOTING TIPS ON THE MODEM.
