Title: Maximum Distance Dish to PC
Post by elmer on Sep 30th, 2007 at 4:01pm
Hi All,

I JUST signed up for Wildblue and needed pole mount so I did this myself where the installer told me. Now I have been reading that 100' is maximum distance,,,, well I'm a little over that,,,, I'm going to guess about 125'.

Can use of a better coaxial cable offset this?

Do I actually have a real concern anyway?

This will be installed sometime around 10-5-07

THANK YOU VERY MUCH for any help!

Because of the power adaptive inroute capability, yes - cable length is a valid concern. It will cost more, but I'd recommend you consider the RG11 cable that is on the Wildblue "approved" list. Last I read, Belden 7731a was on that list.

Untrue. Depending upon how much the customer is willing to pay for optional cable, 225' of high end coaxial cable is not excessive - more if the customer is located at/near the beam's max EIRP point.

And Ethernet cable is used between the PC and the IDU (modem). Cat 5e cable is permitted in runs of up to 100m (330'). Cat 6 is even better.

But your response is academic anyway - Elmer was installed months ago.

True its the hidden extras of some packages that can really rack up your bill.

Using optical cable is academic, as per "wildblue standards" agitt1973 was correct.
