Title: Another New VOIP product
Post by raredx on Jun 24th, 2008 at 6:40am
So, I had an email from a company in Florida who is claiming to have the VOIP of all VOIP products out there... Says that their product will work 100% all the time with no delay. Price is like $299 US and will include a wireless router. I have indicated that I am interested and they are sending me a test unit to try for a week. I will post my results once I have them, if it's as good as he says, it would be well worth the money. I will be testing it on a Xplornet KA system on the bottom package.

That would be SunISP. They (and their business tactics) have been discussed here in some detail. Use the site search engine. Their sales people have been conducting an aggressive self-promotion campaign on many satellite internet discussion and self-help forums. I'd recommend you Google for amplifying info before committing any funds to VoIP

Make sure you tell Xplornet that you've added VoIP to your connection. Other Canadian customers say they'll make a change at the NOC that renders the connection more VoIP friendly (probably packet prioritization). I'd be interested in hearing a before-after comparison. That is, try the Florida VoIP product on your connection first. Especially when browsing or downloading during a VoIP conversation. Then ask Xplornet if they'll make their VoIP accommodation for you.

Hi guys, I just stumbled onto this forum trying to find my xplornet dealers phone number. So here's my problem I recently moved to grande prairie from edmonton and my phone bills are crazy with Telus, so I want to get a VOIP phone. I was told xplornet offered VOIP phone service, but its even worse than its internet service. I've heard some of there dealers wont even offer the service. What VOIP phone company's work good with Xplornet satellite internet? My neighbor's on xplornet also and he had Vonage but could rarely make a phone call and switched to Comamigo about a month ago and says his service is great. Have any of you guys had experience with them or would recommend somebody else

Thanks
Luc

I've tried a few VOIP products with Xplornet satellite and they all work well. Used Vonage for four years but now I switched to Xplornets IPtalk as it works better.

Most important is that IPtalk will continue to work even after Telesat switchs all its carriers to DAMA. No other system will. Iptalk gets first priority over all other packets including HTTP on DAMA carriers. No other VOIP products get that.

But all satellite VOIP has a delay of over half a sec. I use it only because it is my only option.
