Title: Disable Unused Switch Ports on 5300 series Modem

How do you disable unused switch ports on a 5300 series modem?  Someone had tried this, but every time it resets, the ports are back up.

TIA

The commands I'm having someone try don't appear to be successful.

I'd like to know this too lol... I posted this very same question a few months back.  I know you can create "phantom VLAN's" to nowhere on those ports... but there's gotta be a way to just manually turn them off.

I have a friend at a different supporting location that figured out how to do it through linux.  But there has to be an easier way... IE remotely.  We're gonna have close to 1000 remotes in our network soon... and having to visit a site due to somehow a port failing is gonna be a huge pain...

The best answer that was given was someone saying they released this feature in only 1 version in the 7's... no one was able to say which one.  I was actually visiting just now to bring that topic back from the dead lol.

Anyone anyone???

Ok... well surprise surprise... My buddy at that remote site figured it out...

Located in the option file... you'll find something that looks like this.... (this is from a 5100/5150... should be same tho)

[ETH0]
     interface = ixp1
     phy_count = 8

CHANGE IT TO

[ETH0]
               interface = ixp0
               phy_count = 1

This takes the 8 ports away... Just plug into the "Lan A" port...  Can't believe I over looked that when I spent a few hours trying to figure it out when it was right in front of me...  Funny how that happens lol... something so simple... overlooked...

well hope this helped...

Ok... Someone else from my project found this out too...
Figured I'd share it with you...  Well I didnt' say this in last post... but this needs to be done at the NOC in the custom key of the remote in iBuilder...

Here are some examples...

[SWITCH_PORT_(whatever port you want off)]

power_off = 1

Examples of turning all ports off but port 1 on a 5150...

[SWITCH_PORT_2]

power_off = 1

[SWITCH_PORT_3]

power_off = 1

[SWITCH_PORT_4]

power_off = 1

[SWITCH_PORT_5]

power_off = 1

[SWITCH_PORT_6]

power_off = 1

[SWITCH_PORT_7]

power_off = 1

[SWITCH_PORT_8]

power_off = 1
