Title: SAT Led blinking Fast
Post by hbj on May 5th, 2009 at 2:37pm
I bought RCST Linkstar ViaSat from eBay 20 pieces to replace the rural school RCST (goverment support team).
Unfortunately, all RCST unable to link to satellite, the symptom is the SAT led blinking Fast.

I cannot figure out what is the problem.  All configuration is set accordingly with the previous setting.

I wounder, is it europe and USA RCST can be worked with Asia? I'm from Malaysia.

Anybody can help me !!

I think you will need to tell the hub the new MAC addresses for each of your sites.

Best regards, Eric.

Hi Eric,

I did, I gave all (20 pcs ) MAC address to the hub operator and they key-in into the list.

Is it possible Fw and SW different? or maybe other setting and configuration other than

Tell the hub the Imep software versions.

There may be some way the hub can be re-configured to communicate with your modems and upgrade your modem software.

I hope someone else with experience of LinkStar modems and software can help please..

Best regards, Eric.

Hi Eric,

Thank you for your info, I will try to ask the hub to do it.

Is it possible the RCST is locked?

Pls advise

Thanks

Since you can reconfigure the tuning it does not sound like the modem is password protected from user configuration, but it may still be locked in some way to a particular network.  I don't know.

Did your hub try to reset the modem ?
Did your hub try to download new software ?

Try contacting the person who you bought them from and ask about previous useage in a network or preparation for useage in a network. Then contact that network operator.

There is a procedure for unlocking Linkstar modem passwords using a made up serial port cable.  Read Linkstar Serial Cable.  Use is very much at your own risk.

Best regards, Eric.

Hi,

Use command rcstlockinfo to find out if your modem is locked or no.

Thanks for that extra information about rcstlockinfo command.  Very useful.

hbj: Did you tell the hub the full MAC address or at least the last three pairs of hex characters, not just last two pairs of hex characters ?.

The oldest modems were designated with just two pairs of characters.  More recent ones had 01 02 03 etc in front of the last two pairs.

Best regards, Eric.

Thank you Eric for the info. I will ask the installer to do that, cooperate with Hub.

Vsatmiddleeast: Thanks for the useful command.

I will let you when its done.

Thanks again.

Hi all,

I was wondering, was this problem fixed? If yes, please state what the solution was.

@HBJ,
Being able to work  the RCSTs in Asia (bought from Eur/USA) depends on the Local oscillation of the LNB and BUC and the RF frequencies used.
The L-band rx freq range for the Linkstar S2A RCST is between 950 and 1750 MHz. So you'll need to have the RF frequencies to do the math.

Helo.. Sorry if this is an old thread.
I was frequently experiencing this problem. Your modem is fastblinking means that your HUB can receive the signal from modem but the HUB is rejecting it.

This is particularly because of wrong Latitude & Longitude configuration in your HUB. Ask your HUB to re-check Latitude & Longitude of your corresponding Mac-Address, it mostly solve my problem in past days.
