shared bandwidth mean, if u not using or little usage of ur internet then ur remaining bandwidth  bandwidth is assigned to another customer. while dedicated bandwidth mean, that ur whole bandwidth is assigned only to u all the time even if u r not using internet.

For example...

Dedicated service (e.g. SCPC: Comtech CDM570L etc)
Dedicated 200kbit/s up and 800kbit/s down
1 site with 80 PCs $7000 per month.

Shared service (e.g. TDMA: HX, iDirect, LinkStar etc)
Shared "Up to" 200kbit/s up and 800kbit/s down
40 sites with 1 PC (bronze basic service) $87.50 per month.
10 sites with 2 PCs (silver service)       $175 per month.
5  sites with 4 PCs (gold premium service)   $350 per month.

Dedicated service is simple to provide, good for VoIP, easy to manage and does not involve high hub equipment and management costs.  Choose dedicated if 24/7 service is really critical to you. Choose shared for mass consumer level use with minimal costs per site but some congestion and interruption problems.

Satellite costs are illustrative only.

Here is a good write up about Comparison of Asymmetric SCPC and TDMA (iDirect)

Best regards, Eric.
