Well done repairing the burned chip on the modem.

Regarding rlock, this means that it has been locked to a certain network by the service provider to prevent you moving elsewhere during the contract time.  It might be helpful to find out where the modem came from and then contact the relevent service provider.  Give details of the serial number.  Only the original service provider or iDirect know how to fix the problem.

Regarding the BUC, if this is a Hughes part it may well be unsuitable for use with iDirect, I am not sure.  You need a standard, general purpose BUC, similar to this Ku band BUC specification.

The LNB NJR2184HH is  standard unit with a 10 GHz local oscillator, suitable for use in a network with a downlink carrier in the frequency range 10.95 - 11.7 GHz.

Best regards, Eric.

Regarding the BUC note the folllowing:

1025901-1009      RF-KU-TIG-E-1W-LGF
1025901-2009       RF-KU-TIG-E-1W-LG2F
1025901-1007       RF-KU-TIG-I-1W-LGF
1025901-2007       RF-KU-TIG-I-1W-L2F
1025901-2107       RF-KU-TIG-I-1W-L2F

The document below provides more information about many different Hughes BUC and thier compatibility issues, also pictures of each BUC and Hughes modem:
https://62.128.191.210/hughes_dev/files/downloads/RFU%20&%20PES%20Indentification%20Guide%20v1.2b.pdf

Unfortunately this document, while it gives the full compatibility matrix for Hughes equipment, it does not explain how each BUC works technically (DC supply volts, Freq reference, upconverter setting, telemetry etc).

We need help from someone with Hughes experience to say if your 1025901-2107  BUC is suitable for iDirect.

Best regards, Eric.

Is that the small flat type BUC ?

Anyone know how it or the PES5000 works on transmit ?

DC power, freq reference, up converter, linear or AGC saturated etc...

Some, perhaps all, Hughes BUCs have a 170-190 MHz input on transmit and have a synthesised upconverter local oscillator whose frequency is controlled by data messages send from the indoor PES to the outdoor Hughes BUC, via the cable.  Such a BUC is quite unsuitable for use with an iDirect modem.

There are many more Hughes documents here to study:
https://62.128.191.210/hughes_dev/files/downloads/
Hopefully we can find the answer somewhere ...

Best regards, Eric.

I'm still very doubtful about your old BUC being compatible with iDirect.

The very latest HughesNet modems HX-150 are compatible with normal BUCs.  See https://www.eeenterprisesinc.com/pdf/HX150_H35527_A4_LR_091306.pdf
HX-150 Modem
TX output 950-1700 MHz
10 MHz reference available
24 volts at 3.2 amps (for 5W BUC)

Best regards, Eric.

Try emailing iDirect and tell them the modem model number and serial number and they may be able to identify the service provider they sold it to.  You could then try to set up a service with that provider and make the unit operational, or ask that the service provider to set up service briefly - a few minutes - to unlock the modem over their satellite.   Maybe they might authorise iDirect to unlock the modem in which case you would need to send it back to iDirect.  Somehow either the service provider or iDirect need to connect to your modem.

Best regards, Eric.

i did do that today they said they can't identify the modem.  they say it was listed faulty in their records should have been cause i fixed the fault and they say cause i can't prove i am the owner they can't help unlock it any other was to wipe of the os and re-install and technical ways whats redboot

I would deal directly with iDirect.  That or buy another modem entirely.

You can look around on the falcon process.  That is about it.

If you are able to telnet to the iDirect, you are telneted into the falcon process.

Ok first of all i can telnet in cmd and login as user only i can login as user&admin on the isite software i can also log on hyper terminal with host name which i use my ip address i can t login through the serial port it want connect when i try calling the console port i have the cable that has a rj45 connector going to the serial port on the modem and a serial connection at the other end going to the computer also in hyper terimnal when i logon through my ip address i can only login as user if i can get on telnet which u say is flacon what can i do can you specify what u mean by flacon and what i can do ?

onther thing in this topic we have been talking about a hughes buc number 8 in this pdf link:https://62.128.191.210/hughes_dev/files/downloads/RFU%20&%20PES%20Indentification%20Guide%20v1.2b.pdf
can this buc only work on the nss7 satalite or even the w3a can you please tell me if this buc can work on the nss7 with a idirect modem 3100 which supports both ku band and c-band my buc is a ku-band the hughes.

ok tht's explained i just bought a new idirect mode 3100 and a new buc for idirect aswell when i put the idirect on and put the rj45 cable on the lan it don t show up  on the isite software nither does the console port work how do i configure it sum1 help i also paid my six month subscription to mweb on the w3a satalite so how do i set it up ?

thats about it for todai

thanks guys

Contact mweb and ask them for full installation instructions.  They may have preconfigured the iDirect modem and are therefore best placed to explain how to configure and connect your PC to the modem.

They should send you the relevent iDirect installation manual and provide you with dish, mount, feed system and BUC and an LNB with the correct local oscillator frequency for your downlink carrier frequency.

You need to know what satellite and what downlink polarisation name. Did they send you an options file required to tune your modem to the correct downlink carrier frequency, symbol rate etc.

Use this page to work out the Azimuth, Elevation and polarisation adjustment angles for your dish in southern Africa.

Best regards, Eric.

ok they have given me the w3a satalite to lock on to i have aligned my dish to the w3a satalite with the new buc for idirect itself and a new idirect 3100 modem also have uploaded my option file but when i go to test if i am locked on there network i only get the red line and no lock on to there network after upload of the option file i noticed that there was no offset its 0 on my settings could that be the problem i am unable to log on the network

You say you have aligned your dish to W3A.  You don't say how you have done this.  How do you know it is W3A if you have not yet got your modem to lock to the wanted carrier?.

I suggest you check your polarisation name and the polarisation adjustment angle applied. If Horizontal name then start with the LNB at the top.  If Vertical start with the LNB at the side (either side, it does not matter).  Then apply the adjustment angle, face towards the satellite in the sky, clockwise is positive.

Then try pointing again till you find the correct satellite.

If, by "offset" your are referring to the line:
reflector_offset_angle = 0.000000
in the options file, this is of no consequence since the modem does not drive the antenna positioner.

The hub and remote latitude and longitude are important however as the modem needs to work out the range to the satellite, when the time comes to transmit.

If your dish has an elevation scale, use it to set the beam elevation angle. If you don't find the satellite on the first swing try up and down in 1 deg steps.

If the dish does not have an elevation scale set the front face of the dish vertical.  The beam elevation angle will now be the offset angle of the dish (read the dish installation manual).  To obtain the operational beam elevation angle tilt the dish further, either forwards or backwards to decrease or increase the beam elevation angle by the required amount.  You may wish to make an accurate inclinometer. This inclinometer may also be used to set the polarisation adjustment angle; place sideways across the BUC, LNB or waveguide part.

Best regards, Eric.

If you have the admin password sure. Otherwise, plug in the serial and break it at boot. There's actually a "recover lost idirect modem" documentation on https://tac.idirect.net. But you will need to login, and if you don't have a login (you are a customer) they aren't going to help. They do this out of respect for providers who don't want to give a customer a remote, to only have them switch out providers. It's actually an options file setting, not in the OS.

Just call them and buy a 5IF chassis, they'll help you out ;)
