Title: Best way to test if everything is work correctly
Post by gandyman on Sep 13th, 2009 at 8:55am
Just got the system up and working. Peaked it and I have no idea if I am having real issues or if the system is already running at its peak. I have the 512/128 SOHO 500 package but the best I have been able to get is about 120 Kbps down. I am just worried something is not correct in the alignment or the dish assembles that is preventing me from getting a better rate. Is there a way to check the package I have. I have been using satellites for a long time now and understand the GOS and this is the first system I have that will not let me open up more than one tab without going to a crawl. The system seems to not like anything other than one person. It will work with more as far as yes they get an IP address and all but if we both open the browser and just browse it will basically stop working.

Not enough information to work with;
1. What type hardware, indoors and out?
2. Who is your provider; Hughes directly? or a reseller?
2. Where are you located?
3. Professional installation, or self-install?

I am sorry it is the HX 50 System. It was an upgrade from a Starpro. I have the Andrews Dish Type I. BW is the provider. I am located in Iraq. Self Install. One of the reasons I ask is the conversion kit bracket was for a type II or III dish and I have a type I. Basically this means I cannot rotate the entire dish only the polarization setting is from the feed horn. The bracket never got used as it cannot be used. I have been trying to find out about this but no one at BW will answer any questions I ask about this. They answer many questions I ask but never this one. So I do not know what is correct as there is no documentation on the upgrade that I can find. I can send pics of what I have set up. As I said I am very good at setting these up as I have done many sat installs, I have never had a hard time finding a sat or getting it peaked in. This is the first one that I am really unsure of. I just do not know where to look to see if there is a problem that is not addressed in on the status page. I have looked in the advance screen but really that is out of my experience.

On the Andrews antenna type 1, the feed support arm will be at the bottom of the dish and you are unable to rotate the entire dish to adjust the polarisation.

Instead, rotate the LNB/BUC/Feed assembly in its clamp to set the initial nominal polarisation, then apply the adjustment angle.

You should use the conical feed horn that matches your Type 1 dish.  You may have to improvise where the two circular waveguide attachment flanges meet.

Contact Bentley Walker to determine the name and orbit location of the satellite you should point at and the name of the downlink polarisation.  This should all be on the configuration sheet they send to you.

Best regards, Eric.

I have the dish all set up and working. I am worried about if it is working correctly due to the dish not being able to be set up as it was made to be. I have the bird locked in and would just like to see if there is any setting that would tell me if I am not getting the best connection to the sat. When I am at the advance page in general summery I have a stream error rate of .01 but a nonstream error rate of 30.41. But I do not know if this is normal or if it has anything to do with the system.

On your status screen what is the downlink signal quality that you are receiving ?

What is your user ID ? Send to eric@satsig.net and I'll speak with Bentley Walker tomorrow about the advanced stats.

When you send me an email write some meaningful subject line so I don't delete it as spam - amongst several hundreds, occasionally thousands, per day !!!

Best regards, Eric.

512/128 is not consistent with the stats you just posted. Specifically, your modem is telling us that it's actually transmitting at up to 256k rather than the 128 you mentioned. That however is independent from mention of only getting 120k in the other direction. Your ModCod is the 2nd highest the modem is capable of, the transmission error count is excellent, the TX/RX error codes indicate a normally functioning modem. From the modem back, there doesn't appear to be a mechanical reason for such slow receive speeds.

Are you using a router or a hub to share the connection? I say this, because the 512/128 is the rated speed of the basic connection - NOT the speed that each simultaneous users should expect. I suggest you by pass it temporarily, and assess connection performance on the basis of one machine. If it's reasonably in the neighborhood of 512/128 on a 24 hours basis, divide your results by the number of users to get a feeling for what simultaneous users should expect.

Also, does your connection plan include a guaranteed CIR - or is it just a typical "up to" plan?

Dear Mr Gandy

We are looking at your system and have emailed you so we can add you to our MSN support , we need to do some live tests with you to see if there is any problem

Best Regards

BW

Dear Mr Gandy

We can see here you are being hit by the Fair Acess system , this mean you have downloaded 222 megabits and are now in the throtlle , if in future you need to check your usage it can be found on teh BW support page www.bentleywalker.com under HX FAP state site 70139 , may be you woudl like to try a larger service package to avoid this

Best Regards

Bentley Walker

I understand the GOS. I understand the issues with multiple users. What about the nonstream errors is that correct? I downloaded a bunch of stuff to test the system to see what it would do and count the errors I received. I understand I would take a hit due to FAP. I do not need a bigger package that would not solve the issue I am having. It is not that that the service is slow but that it is way way way slow when I use two systems or open more than on etab in IE. I do not understand why someone at BW cannot or will not answer the emails or my questions about the adapter and the type of dish I have and the errors I am having. This has nothing to do with FAP. FAP will not give me 401 Miscellaneous Problems or 33.21% nonstream errors. I only ask as in the example install it shows and states about the dish having to be moved for polarization do to the new technology. And I still have not received an email from you. It is easy to say FAP and I understand it and the purpose. I have used Hughes since the begining when it was only oneway.

Thank everyone for helping me try to see if I have an error or not. I have used Hughes for every deployment to Iraq and never had any issues. I am just worried about the nonstream errors and the fact that I cannot open two websites without the system going to a crawl. If this is just due to the package I have than I understand. But on one of the advance pages it also says

Miscellaneous Problems...... 401

I have a simple setup A switch that connects two AP's for wireless outside my hard-line with only access for me. I have an Intel NAS 4000 and two laptops. That is it. Only my two laptops use the WAN. Only one DHCP server and that is the HX50. Once again thank you so much for the help so far and I will send whatever it takes to see if I have an issue or not.

I am sorry BW if I sound like an ass but I do not mean to. It is just you have still never addressed the issues I have been trying to solve and this is the only way I have to address them as it would cost way to much to use the sat phone.

Mine is doing this also, NonStream Error Rate.......  31.02% it is always giving me "Web Acceleration Errors" also.

I doubt the two are directly related. Who is your provider?
