Title: upgrading from dw6000 to hn7000s werd prob
Post by flacntryboy on Oct 11th, 2009 at 5:58am
with my dw6000 hooked up I'm aimed at 87west signal is 71. I change over my modems to the hn7000s just swapping cables on modem and all of a sudden I'm aimed at 99w signal of 15?? whuts up with that. I have a .98 prodelin dish w/ 2watt osiris .

Your outdoor unit (ODU) is still aimed at 87W, but your HN7000S (IDU) doesn't know it yet. The way the system is designed, it's the IDU that talks to the ODU about satellite parameters. Not the other way around.

Let me start by asking where you got the HN7000S

I bought the hn7000s on ebay and when it arrived I reset it to factory parameters before hooking it up to the odu.

Ok. Not wanting to scare you, but many modems sold on eBay have been blacklisted for cause - usually because the former account holder is in arrears. So before you do anything, call HughesNet billing department with the serial number, and make sure the modem can actually be recommissioned. If it is, there's nothing in the world either of us can do unless/until that modem comes off the blacklist.

But I'm curious. Why did you feel it was necessary to reset the modem firmware?

I was told it would make it easier to get the modem to accept a new account. It took a little tinkering but I just got it commissioned and am up and running with it.Now just need to upgrade my account so the 2watt transmitter will make a difference. Thanks for the help

You were told wrong. In fact, it works the other way around. The North American setup process involves several servers at the NOC end; mainly a registration server, an ACP server, and a commissioning server - pretty much in that order.

The registration server doesn't use any info contained within the modem firmware. It just validates the modem serial number, and creates or modifies the account. It's an administrative step. If the validation fails, the setup process stops. If it succeeds, the information contained within the modem firmware is then considered during the ACP and commissioning phases. Fallback is usually only performed as a last effort, when everything other than firmware corruption has been eliminated.

What you should have been told was simply to download and install the latest SBC (satellite-based configuration) file. That's what you use to update the modem's satellite parameter list, which in turn helps simplify the ACP and commissioning phases.

But I'm glad to hear you got it worked out anyway. If you don't have one yet, I can email you a copy of the latest SBC file that I have archived.

thanks for all the help greg. I do have another quiestion maybe you could help with. not dealing with aiming tho. what is the difference between the different transmitters ie isis.anabus, osiris is any one better than the other. the reason I'm asking I have a osiris and a anubis both 2 watt just wandering if one was better.

Personal choice, I'd go with the Osiris. But from a practical standpoint you have to consider which feedarm you have. If you try to position a TRIA (transmit/receive integrated assembly) on a feedarm that isn't specifically designed to accept it, you'll face potential focal length and angle problems. Even within the OSIRIS family there are differences. I have a "pure" OSIRIS and I have an OSIRIS-TG. Each needs a different feedarm and strut set to mount correctly on my 98cm Prodelin reflector (dish).

If you've got the old 74cm reflector, it may already have an ANUBIS-compatible feedarm. If true, it only makes sense to use the ANUBIS TRIA. But if you've got a round reflector, you may face the same feedarm/strut compatibility problem I did (and they're not cheap).

I recommend you double-check your part numbers though. Because I'm only familiar with the 1w Anubis. The only 2w TRIAs I know of (for North American use) are the two OSIRIS variants mentioned above.
Here's a few:
2w pure OSIRIS #1035817-0001
2w OSIRIS-TG   #1035818-0002
1w pure OSIRIS #1035007-0001 and  -0002.
I also have 1w ISIS and TIGRIS numbers, but unfortunately none for the Anubis.

I have the 135817-0001 osiris and a brand new 1500172-0202 anubis both 2 watt.for some reason my osirus only shows up as 1 watt in system info.is this because I havent upgraded to pro plus plan yet?I'm using a 64 watt power supply. I have a list of hughesnet ku band transmitter numbers if you would like a copy
