From my perspective they differ mainly in firmware versions and deployment.

Right now, I know of no intermingled HN and HX networks (WAN). HN networks are deployed primarily in the Americas, HX networks elsewhere. But loaded with compatible firmware versions, the series could likely co-exist within a single WAN. Having said that, I'm speaking from the perspective as a member of one of the HN networks. There may be separating characteristics within the HX networks of which I'm as yet unaware.
