Title: HELP with modem and internet
Post by redbaron on Aug 16th, 2010 at 6:34am
I have had a working satellite/intenet connection for weeks and have been using a linksys wireless router.  I decided to upgrade my router to provide better coverage for other users in the area.
When I switched routers (from one linksys router to another) I have lost all ability to connect to the internet.

I now can not log into the modem using iSite.  When I attempt to log into iSite I get the following message "TDMA Remote #3100.112413 (79.170.5.37) is not accessible please check ip address try again with secure login option"

Here is what we have.

Power   Good showing solid green
Status  Not good showing flashing green then solid while booting up
but goes dark (no light) when the TX, RX and Net lights light up.
Net             Not good flashing intermittent yellow
TX              Not good flashing green
RX              Good solid green

the iSite column on the left of the screen shows:
idirect TDMA Remote - has a small red x on it
Device status - green
Back Panel LED's
network (goes from red to no light at all)
transmit (from green to no light_
    receive is green constantly

I am completely frustrated here and need some help.

What could be causing me to no longer have connectivity and why won't iSite let me back into the modem?

Are you using a sat modem too? I use a Linksys WRT54G2 with an iDirect X3 modem.I think you must have mixed up the IP Addresses. The address on your modem must be different from your Linksys Router. For example, if you have 79.170.5.37 as your iDirect modem IP addr, then your Linksys modem must be something like 79.170.5.38 on its Internet port (clearly written "Internet"). Why do you want to login iSite? Try a telnet session fromyour terminal emulator (Hyperlink)
First disable that Linksys and try browsing directly from your modem ie using a laptop connection. If you do get to browse, then connect a crossover cable to the Linksys Internet port from LAN A or B on your iDirect modem. Please connect the Linksys as "gateway" whilst configuring.
I hope this works. Let me know.

One problem I don't understand is that when directly connected to the IP port from the satellite system,
pinging the IP address resulted in NEGATIVE packets.

Shouldn't I still be able to ping the system?

Absolutely! You should be able to ping the modem. Did you get a lock on that satellite at all? If you did and has lost the connection, try calling your provider to see if you're still "on". Could be a minor problem from your ODU. Rain, slight shift on the dish, cabling etc. Dont give up, I bet you its a minor prob. Where are you, if I may ask?

Try this on the iDirect modem:
1. Login using hyperterminal or whatever emulator and enter your password then at the /# Linux prompt
2. enter ifconfig.
3. check the interface (ixp0 or ixp1)and see what the IP addr is. It must match what your provider gave you in the options file.
4. If it doesnt, then your options file hasnt been loaded, and you're likely to get 192.168.0.1 netmask 255.255.255.0.
5. Means you need to do the whole process of lining up all over.
