Post by cazadorez on Aug 17th, 2010 at 12:06am
This question is for someone that is sharp at pointing Directv dishes.....does anyone know of a formula or site where to locate dish pointing specs? I have a super buddy but it is only loaded for North America...I want to get the pointing coordinates for Mexico citys like Guadalajara and sourrounding areas...Another words..how to point the dish down in Mexico to get the Directv signal?  Thank you in advance for your responses......cheers!!!!

This page https://www.satsig.net/maps/satellite-tv-dish-pointing-usa.htm will give you the dish pointing angles.

Look in https://www.lyngsat.com to try to identify satellites that have beams that include your location, that also have DirecTV service.  I believe that most DirecTV services are in beams intended for the USA specifically. Such beams will have reducing power in their outer contour areas, so in such cases will need larger dish than normal for the USA.

Please come back here and say what you find, so as to help others.

Best regards, Eric.

If you're talking a one LNB dish, your starting Az/El angles would be based upon the exact equatorial longitude of the satellite you're pointing at. In the case of multi-satellite Ku-band dishes, you typically split the difference. For example; when attempting to capture signals from satellites at 101W/110W/119W, starting Az/El/skew angles would be based upon the 110W satellite.

I will take a 5 LNB dish that is HD capable for DTV here in the states and a DTV reciever with a DTV card that is currently active here in the states and give it a try down south to see what happens. Has anyone tried this already, so I can get a couple of pointers? In anycase I will report here my findings....

Prepare to be disappointed. That 5 LNB dish is configured for Ka/Ku band, but there's no DirecTV Ka-band coverage over Mexico. So the end result will be the same as taking a 3 LNB Ku-band dish down there.
