Title: How many watts?
Post by granadainfo on Dec 25th, 2010 at 1:02pm
Does anyone know how many watts the tooway system uses when in operation?

I have solar power so power usage is important.

How long does the modem take to boot and get a conexion  once it has been switched on?

Does it matter if it is switched on and off a lot?

Can you, or anyone with an actual operating Tooway VSAT, please measure the mains power consumption ?

A normal domestic or business mains power useage meter has a disk going round plus counters or, on more modern meters, a flashing LED plus LCD readout.  With the Tooway terminal powered on take readings say 30 min apart and then turn off the Tooway and record another reading 30 min later.  That should give a good idea, provided you don't switch anything else on on/off !

Best regards, Eric.

To measure the power consumption it is necessary to have a measurement device.

In case anyone were really interested it is possible to buy a plug in power meter which tells you the watts used by any device.

Here is a link for a similiar device.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Plug-In-Power-and-Energy-Monitor/dp/B000Q7PJGW

or put "plug in power meter" into a search.

By the way:
Using a plug in power meter my laptop uses:
50 watts on power up
then uses 50 watts until the battery is fully charged then goes down to about  35 watts for normal use.
I have tested this on more than one laptop and it is more or less correct. (December 2010)

A globesurfer 3G modem uses about 7watts constantly.

A wireless router uses about 12watts constantly.
