Title: New Tooway KA-SAT Satellite Internet Kit
Post by europe-satellite.com on Dec 24th, 2010 at 1:47pm
Be the first to get information of the new Ka satellite systems.
New KA-SAT Tooway modem made by Viasat. The new antenna will be a bit larger (71cm instead of the previous 67cm) and a new, more simple, configuration with just a primary reflector.

New Tooway KA system.

KA-SAT footprint.

This will be easier to setup secondary LNB allowing the reception of multiple satellite TV channels. The LNB included in the new Tooway Kit will include a "Sat Beeper" to facilitate the antenna pointing towards the satellite.

This new Tooway kit will be supplied once the Satellite Internet ISP will use the new KA-SAT satellite which launch is expected by the end of the year.

Hi, new to the forum.
just a question i would like to ask.
earlier in the thread you mention spectrum analyser software to enhance dish alignment.

is this software available and if so from where.
thanks in advance

thanks for reply.
I am aware of the info you posted.
however i have difficulty hearing high freqs. which makes aligning by the beeper method rather difficult.

i have made a pointing tool similar to the one used in the video and have no trouble lining up to eurobird.
however it is the fine tuning which is a problem and the spectrum analyser software would have been ideal.

The new Tooway is not using Eurobird but the new KA-SAT satellite.

yes, I am aware of that, but as there are no ku band transmittions on  Eutelsat Ka-Sat at 9.0°E  it is necessary to line the antenna to  Eurobird 9A at 9.0°E.
(using the pointing tool with universal lnb)
as described in the tooway installation video, using the arqiva transponder  on 11.727v

Why not using an "analogue" way to solve your problem, just ask a neighbour with a good hearing to help you, it takes only 5 minutes and maybe a beer.

I think the idea of a neighbour to help is a good idea if a one off diy job.
however i have a well established sat. tv installation business on the costa blanca and was intending to install the tooway system as well for clients and unfortunately a neighbour is not allways available.

i see with interest your other thread on the new horizon meter.
i yesterday spoke with a technical guy a horizon who claimed the hd-s2 meter is suitable for the new ka-sat transmittions (although the 30v to power the tria would have to be provided direct from the modem.)

would you have any experience of using that meter with the tria????

We use it for Hylas and other Ku and Ka systems, no problems.

As far as I know, spectrum analyser software is not available on new Tooway via Ka-Sat and I've yet to find a USB port. Perhaps europe-satellite.com can come back and clarify that?

I'm with you on using a pointing device other than the built-in bleeper ... I have also made up a Ku band LNB which is an exact replica of the Tria and I can then connect up to a spectrum analyser and measure the BER ... extremely accurate in my opinion. Make sure that you compensate for the weight of the Tria ... the feedhorn of the Ku band LNB is about 1 cm higher than the Tria because the Tria weighs so much more. I add a specific 2Kg weight so the Ku band alignment LNB is in exactly the same position as the heavier Tria.  After 20 installations in France ... perfect results.

Can't see for looking, of course there's a USB port ... anyone know what it's for?
