Does anyone know a way to stop the increasing number of irritating animated Italian adverts that come in with Tooway?

The Tooway system is managed in Italy so I guess that all the IP addresses are Italian, you so get Italy biased Google Adsense ads.

Search google for "block google ads"

It should also cut down your download quantity and make your Tooway subscription go further for wanted information.

New users might choose the alternative Ka band satellite system, Avanti-Hylas, based at Goonhilly, Cornwall, UK, and get a permanent UK IP address and UK biased ads.

As far as we know, a Tooway IP address is related to your location, or at least we think this will be the case in the future. So any user in the UK should end up with an UK IP, a user located in Spain with an ES IP, a user in France with a FR IP etc.

The Hylas hub is located at Goonhilly UK and all users within the Hylas-1 footprint have an UK IP address, this gives you also the option to visit sites like BBC IPlayer and ITV IPlayer if you are not located in the UK, adverts are UK adverts.

Yes but I'm signed up with BW for a long time yet. Actually, having been critical of Tooway in the past it is only right that I should take the opportunity to report better news. The worst adverts, the animated flickering ones, have gone away by themselves, or is it the intervention of those unappreciated chaps at Bentley Walker? Furthermore the system is much smoother than before, with few of the "server not founds" that used to occur. I did try something myself for which I found the info on
https://www.speedguide.net/articles/windows-7-vista-2008-tweaks-2574, and that was to set ctcp with the administrator command "netsh int tcp set global congestionprovider =ctcp".
I inferred (rightly or wrongly) that this might help the system deal with unexpected latency. If the real reason for the improvement is incremental modifications being made by the providers then so much the better.

Thanks for your positive comments, I am glad to hear that the issues you were having are resolved.

I can confirm the Technical Team here at Bentley Walker have now implemented UK IP addresses which mean that Italian adverts will no longer appear, and other UK restricted websites and applications will now be accessible.

Restricted sites didn't bother me - I just used my trusty 3G dongle.

It's going like a train now.  I had convinced myself that it was my network set-up that was to blame in the case of my wife's wireless laptop and the connection drop-outs. I thought that I was doing something very obviously wrong (obvious to others) because no-one else seemed to be complaining, and that people were too polite to ask whether I had set this-and-that. If we had had these UK IPs from the start I wouldn't have said such unkind things.
