Title: iSCPC
Post by nkast on May 21st, 2012 at 5:10pm
Hi

We are running a service on the iSCPC platform using the 8.3.13 version. Recently we had power issue at the hub, once the unit came back online the RX light was green and TX light was green, however we were not seeing any TX carrier from the site. The unit being mobile we checked it is on correct satellite by turning our TX off and strangely there RX went off which is correct but there TX went off as well which should not be the case. When we logged into the modem and turned the TX off at the remote TX light was green still. Do you think this is hardware issue ie modem or software issue?
Both sites using 5100 modem.
Regards

You obviously don't have an RF issue. after Tx and RX the next step is that the link layer is establsihed and the NET LED lights. It sounds like this is not happening. The link layer is dependant on IP connectivity and if you have an IP address conflict or other routing issue then the link layer will not be established.

Hi

But we are unable to see the carrier back from the remote.

Could this be the modem or RF?

It is likely that the remote modem will automatically cease to transmit its carrier if it loses the receive signal from the teleport.  This is the normal rule for VSATs, to avoid interference from mispointed antennas etc. So, for the remote site, the TX light going out after loss of receive signal is not unexpected.

From your symptoms, I would suspect faulty BUC power supply, faulty BUC or faulty TX cable.  There is also the possibility that following the power outage that the software restarted with the TX power muted (off), wrong TX frequency, wrong TX power etc. Can someone at the remote site somehow read out the transmit configuration: freq, power, status, symbol rate, FEC etc.

Can you send, from the hub, a blind load of the transmit config to that specific remote to set the remote going as intended ? Can you command the remote to reset ?

If the remote BUC has a control interface (e.g. BUC output power, gain setting, temperature, muted, LO unlock status etc) what does it say ?

Best regards, Eric.

Many thanks for all your reply. In an iScpc mode what is the command to reset the remote modem from the hub side? I have checked the tx freq and tx power of the remote site they were the same as the last known working value. How do you check the tx is mute? Is that tx enable you are talking ?  That is on well.  The remote site has a codan buc which if had fault will have fault led come on but currently they are all green. Also how can you send a set of blind config from the hub side?

This is our first iscpc circuit so we are struggling a bit and tac knowledge is very sparse come to iscpc.

It sounds as though the remote is working normally.

You say you are unable to see the carrier back from the remote. Can the satellite NOC see the carrier coming back from your remote ?

Can you see all the other carriers on the satellite and in your transponder ?  Is there still a gap where the carrier from your remote site is supposed to be located ?

I've re-read the above and you say you had a power issue at the hub ?

Check that your hub receive system is good and that hub receiver tuning etc is set as before.

Best regards, Eric.

hi
I do not have software for the iDirect 5xxx for the organization SCPC channel.
I can not download it from the link
tac.idirect.net/Home/Software-Releases/iSCPC/iSCPC-8/iSCPC-8_3_13/iS

so there is no contract for technical support
Please help.
