In 2009, ARABSAT awarded 12 backhauling earth stations for delivery throughout the middle east and north east Africa.

The solution was selected for transparency in providing reputable components and for robustly designing the assemblies for lifetime use in challenging environments with minimal maintenance.
The challenge was to provide VSAT transmitting in Appendix 30B frequency.
- The transmit frequency was minimum 13.00 GHz
- The receive frequency was maximum 12.75 GHz

The normal transmit reject filter was inadequate because it passes signals up to 12.75 – which includes large amounts of spurious noise from the transmit band because it’s only 250 MHz away. (Normally, the Ku transmit at 14GHz is 1.25MHz away from receive band meaning the spurious level at the TRF receive pass band does not affect LNB composite receive power limits). iSat’s design of the RF transmit filter carefully balanced insertion loss and attenuation to maintain a good receive signal without compromising EIRP.

Competition for the contract was fierce, with many well known leading companies bidding. Further differentiation was offered by providing turnkey delivery service DDP to site (including clearing customs); installation, training and commissioning, for a full turnkey contract.
The contract included the 12 receiving signals at the earth stations at JMC.
Throughout the contract, good communication smoothed the inevitable hick-ups through numerous customs border posts. The most notable delivery was to Gaza through the tunnels.
