Title: Excessive and unexpected GB downloaded by VSAT users
Post by Eric Johnston on Sep 3rd, 2015 at 6:30pm
VSAT users need to be careful about how much Mbytes or GBytes they download per month. The same applies to people with mobile network access, where low MB or GB limits apply and costs per MB are high.

How often do people experience unexpected, background,  massive downloads due to software update, cloud reload and backups etc. ?  Is this a problem ?  Should a guide exist explaining how to switch off, except when connected to cheaper, fixed line ADSL/cable access ?

Best regards, Eric.

Monthly download limits apply to satellite internet users and these can be really annoying.

Some recent studies on the Tooway network suggest that customers download the same content multiple times in a month, thus wasting between 30 and 70% of their monthly allowance.

Are you a Tooway user ?
Do you look at the same web page, download the same images more than once per month?.  Do you have multiple WiFi devices, e.g. laptop, Android smart phone, iPad etc all fed via your Tooway terminal ? How much content do you think you download more than once ?

Do you do routine tasks like backup and software updates strictly during Tooway off-peak night time free browsing periods ?  Could you download your emails once per day during such times ?

Tell me your experiences eric@satsig.net or put it here (for satsig forum members).

Best regards, Eric

Title: Re: Upgrade to Windows 10

I've just upgraded a PC from Windows 7 to Windows 10 and it involved a massive download of GBytes. Not sure how much but it put me almost at my monthly limit, while I was just half way through the month!

If you have multiple PCs to upgrade I note that it is possible to download an ISO and do the upgrades locally, provided the PCs all have the same  old version of Windows.

Anyone else had good/bad experience of the upgrade ?
