Did you use the string:
exec -c "root=/dev/mtdblock2 console=ttyS1, 9600 single"

If the above works, you will be left with /# ....which is indicative of a login without password.

Hi M,
Thank for your response,

I just tried using the command and string

exec -c "root=/dev/mtdblock2 console=ttyS1, 9600 single"

...my  steps......................................................
RedBoot>
RedBoot> fis load linux
RedBoot> exec -c "root=/dev/mtdblock2 console=ttyS1, 9600 single"
Using base address 0x01600000 and length 0x00100000
$T050f:00600000;0d:0000b4ec;#71

if i press any key on my keyboard this information $T050f:00600000;0d:0000b4ec;#71 shows up.

its behaves as if it wants to execute the command but cannot load it. (

What will be the outcome if I  use this command to format

fis init

Not sure.  You are definitely having a problem with linux and that box may need to go back to iDirect.

You can attempt the init command, but that decision resides solely with you as I am unsure of the outcome.   It is a tough situation.  If you were able to touch that box with SCP we might have a doorway in....but since you cannot, we are at a standstill unless other members have a recommendation.

Hi M/All

I tried the fis init command on my idirect  modem (3100)

it formatted the section that  has to do linux

The only place I know of (where the file can be obtained) is from iDirect.  Do you have an iSupport agreement with them.

Anyone else have a recommendation or know of a source that you can obtain the files?

I'm not sure if anyone else knows how to do it, but Mike i think you are correct when you say it's only from iDirect that you will get those files.

the modems have a proprietary version of Linux loaded, I know this as I have had 2 modems fail with missing Linux files and both had to be returned to iDirect to be sorted out.  they don't give out the Linux portion of the software.  it doesn't look to be image (iDS) related so I think it's a case of RMA if you can.

If you are going to do this yourself, you will need access to the NMS image sets.

Do you have access to the NMS cumulative_update package (for your  iDS version)?

If you do not have access to the NMS and your provider is unwilling to unzip the cumulative update pkg for you, then go ahead and start the RMA process for that box.

Hi Mike,
Thank you for you response.
Actually what happened is that I recovered the password then I wanted unlock the 3100 modem by eplacing the image, I uploaded the cumulative update pkg and the remote image for the new provider but the lock still there it was not removed, by the way this method would remove lock from x3 but not infinite, I asked a friend to access my PC using Teamviewer to unlock attempt using Redboot which we had sussfully done before with another modem but it turns out that method is useful with modem REV E and below but the modem I am trying to unlock now is REV J. ever since the last attempt, I keep getting this message, Using base address 0x01600000 and length 0x00100000
$T050f:00600000;0d:0000b4ec;#71 ,
I am trying to either unlock the modem or put back the image that was in the modem before so that I can put it online for the old provider to remove the lock maybe you can help me with this.
also if you are familier with Teamviewer, I can give you an access to the modem.
Thanks

Do you have the ability to unzip the cumulative update file?  If so, you will need the file called: zImage to recover that box.

If you mean nornal unzip using winzip yes.
I know the installation command for the Cumulative Update package file

tftp_package.sh <ip address> cumulative_update-X_Z_Y.pkg

then I need to instal the image for the old provider which I can do also through hyper terminal

the installation command for the Software Image package:

tftp_package.sh <ip address> <device-X_Y_Z.pkg>

but i don't seem to be able to load the Linux kernel using:

fis load Linux
exec -c "root=/dev/mtdblock2 console=ttyS1,9600 single"

since every time i try i get this message:

Using base address 0x01600000 and length 0x00100000
$T050f:00600000;0d:0000b4ec;#71 ,
fis load Linux
exec -c "root=/dev/mtdblock2 console=ttyS1,9600 single"

How do I go about loading linux ?
If you can give me the link for the cumulative update file and the commands above are correct, I can do this
Thanks Mike for your help

Not WInzip. You will need to unzip that cumulative update file on a linux machine.  That is why I asked if you had access to the NMS.  The image sets naturally reside on the NMS, so it is the perfect place to unzip that file to a tmp directory, and use it to recover your modem.  It is a relatively easy process, however the prerequisite is your ability to unzip that cumulative updte pkg.

Mike,
I see what you mean.
Actually if there is set of commands available to me, I can do it myself and I can give full access to the modem remotely through Teamviewer. I know this is too much to ask but I really want to get this modem fixed so I can use it

I also want to mention that I have 4m connection only connected to 1 pc which makes teamviewer remote connection really VERY fast

What iDS version are you operating on?  Is there any way that you can have your ISP unzip the cumulative update file from the image sets on their primary NMS?

If they are willing, I will provide you the command line strings they will need to extract the file you need into a temp folder on their NMS...then, they can possibly email or FTP it to you to use to recover that box.  Bottomline, you need that file to get started.

Code Version: 8.0.2.7
Build Comment: Release build
Build Label: NetModem-8_0_2_7

I tried to check for nms server with IS does not look like I can do it thorugh them.
Is there any place online that can help with extracting the file like those hosting company?
Is it posible that you can find this and I receive the file for my box to recover it?

It is not likely that you will see such files/software on the open internet.  I dont have access to 8.0.2.7 image sets.  Is your hub operator (ISP) willing to help you?  If so, I will provide the command lines to unzip that update.

I will send you the commands, but you will need a linux box to unzip it to /tmp and move it to a client. Let me know if/when you are succesful.

Yes, those procedures will unzip the cumulative update to the /tmp on the NMS.  They will then need to find a way to send you that file (FTP site, etc).  You have to have that file on your client to resolve your problem.  When the time comes, you will also need a copy of iSite for 8.0.2.7.

Dear Mike,
I have been able to extract the "zimage" file and other files from the cumulative_Update.pkg. The process is simple but it took me timefor this reseach .

Now I have the file. The zimage file is less than <1M
dated back to 2007

I can now extract any file from remote-X-Y-Z.pkg and cumulative_updage-X_y_Z.pkg

Now that I have the file "zimage", how can i install it into my iDirec3100

Recaps

I formatted my iDirect 3100 using "fis init"
therefore Linux is formatted.

That modem loads up to redboot>

I have to following

1: Modem boots to redboot>
2. I have "zimage" from cumulative_Update-7_1_1.pkg
3  I cumulative_Update-7_1_1.pkg
4  Remote-7_1_1.pkg
5  Isite 7.1
6  Winscp, Putty, Telnet

I need now to know how to make the modem work again

You said I needed to fine a way to get the zimage file extracted from the cumulative update-7_1_1.pkg

This is now achievable.

Can you how guide me on how to get the modem up?

Regards

Have you read your PM's?

Word of warning.  You need to be capable of loading software packages manually.  If you are not versed/educated in that process, you need to get ahold of an iDirect Modem Recovery document and read it.  You are going to need WinSCP and a console connection to the box.

Check you PMs.  I sent you message regarding your desire to load zimage.

I had the same issue.

Once i performed 'fis load Linux' i had to then enable ssh deamon.
Checked the modems default gateway "route print" and made sure that the default was my laptops IP address. Once i could ping both ways, I set up a tftp server on my laptop and ran the commands from the console to retreive the remote package.
Once retreived and installed I cat'ed in the options file to the remote and reset the modem.
All good!

Took a couple of tries to get it going but finally got it.

Cheers,
