Dear All,

I want to enable SNMP on the ethernet interface of my iDirect 3000 series. How do I get to do this? I need this to enable me monitor my bandwidth through CACTI.

Regards.

Hi imepals,
This is not possible I'm afraid, the only part of the system which supports SNMP is the NMS machine itself, you must have SNMP configured at the hub location on the NMS to get any traps or monitoring capability from the iDirect modem.
The modems report all their usage back to the NMS which then reports on.
To get usage reports (real time only) from a remote you can use iSite but you won't be able to capture historical stats etc as they are not stored.

Sorry to tell you that.

Agree with Scout.  The snmpsvr resides on the Primary NMS at the Hub.  The traps are enabled from there.

Even though iDirect modems do not support snmp you can collect interface statistics via ssh and parse the output to update an .rrd file.

The latest version of Zenoss (www.zenoss.com) includes agentless monitoring of linux systems. I use this to graph interface, CPU, and load stats for our iDirect SCPC links.

Unfortunately my scripting skills are good enough for me to have written my own script so I am using Zenoss to collect the data.

I would also like to see the script so I can make it work with Cacti.

For those with access to the NMS you can get lots of good SNMP data by using cacti

for the SNMP query and for an example of the graphs
