I want to use 3100 modem as a mobile remote and want to connect a GPS device with it so that it gets the information about its location and does the configuration automatically.

Can anyone please let me know how to connect an external GPS with the 3100 modem??

I recommend a Garmin 18 or comparable model.  Set the GPS up with its config tool to pilot the proper NMEA strings to the iDirect unit (ex NMEA 0183 protocol standard).

There is a pin out for RJ45/DB9 in the remote install book.  It is normally in Appendix D.

Hi,

Can you please explain the complete procedure ?

I've been told by iDirect that we cannot use 3100 as a mobile remote. For this purpose we would require 5000 series modem.

Please explain the procedure for connecting an external GPS with the modem.

Regards
S. Ahmed

You are correct.  The 3100 and X3 mobile remote function is disabled by iDirect.  This is there way to differentiate the product from the 51xx and X5.  In effect, it allows them to charge us as the customer more for that feature set.

Erm we are running a network with many 3100's as mobiles.  Are you referring to SCPC here as I know you can only use 5100's for SCPC?
