There are other ways to save bandwidth in order to implement GSM backhaul these days.

1.Replace Abis interface with IP: New BTS – BSC interface are implemented in IP instead of Abis by Huawei, Ericsson, and others.  IP offers intelligent channels vs. E1 (as a dumb channel). New BTS with IP interface comes with optimizer and local switching that only necessary traffic between BTS and BSC are routed over IP channel.  IP channel’s bandwidth is not fixed.  It fluctuates based on real time traffic and usually is less than 2 mbps for an E1 after optimization.  Only IP based satellite terminal such as SkySwitch offers bandwidth on Demand to support such dynamic rate changes.  By combing multiple return inbound channels using a bandwidth pool, additional bandwidth saving can be realized by concentrating traffic over satellite.

any way; please contact you to provide you with the best sol. for GSM over satellite we do have good sol.meant for saving BW...
