Our client is travelling around West and East Europe and needed an affordable mobile Internet connection via satellite because many locations would be in rural areas without adsl, wifi or 3G coverage.

The use of a self-deployed system was too expensive so we chose a manual portable option using our FastPod ground support system.

...

We had basically 3 options to choose from:

1)      Avanti-Hylas KA band service via Hylas-1/2 satellite.
2)      Tooway KA band service via KA-sat.
3)      Tooway KU band service via Eurobird 3A or AB1.

Service via Hylas-1/2 was finally not an option because the footprint did not cover all countries.

The service via the Tooway ka band was also not an option due to the cost of re-activating every time the client moved to another spot beam, this would result in a very expensive solution.

We finally chose to go for the older Tooway ku band service on AB1 because this covered the whole footprint and no extra cost was involved when moving to another location.

In the end we provided a complete mobile turnkey solution consisting of the following equipment;

Tooway KU band satellite modem.
100 cm dish & odu (KU band).
Set of RG6 coax cables.
Satellite finder.
FastPod80 mobile ground support.
2 flight cases.
