Typical VSAT network package and prices from Global Teleports.Providing internet access for a group of sites for business, offices or Cyber Cafés anywhere in UK, Europe or along the North African coast. |
|
Your requirement: You want to connect several sites (e.g. regional offices, business branches, cyber cafés, border posts, customs, police, tax, petrol stations, shops). Each site has several PCs and VoIP phones. You need connection between the sites and also to the internet backbone. You want capacity assigned and dedicated to the entire network, so that you are not subject to traffic conflict (congestion) due to others sharing your capacity. Essentially you are in overall control of your network. Coverage: The map to the right shows an example. You are the owner of a chain of stores, petrol filling stations, logistics offices, holiday centres or hotels around the Mediterranean. Sites may be anywhere in the green area, including UK, Europe and part Middle East as far as Baghdad. The North Africa region may be expanded by clicking on the map for more detailed uplink and downlink satellite beam contour maps. Regarding Libya and Syria, sorry - excluded due to US embargo. |

Solution: Each site is provided with a Ku band 1.2m diameter satellite dish, 3 watt TRIA (BUC transmitter and PLL LNB receiver) and Vipersat CDM570L modem, connected to the internet using the following bit rates: Outlink: Shared 1 Mbit/s carrier shared across all sites. Return link: Shared 400 kbit/s S-TDMA carrier shared by amongst all sites. These bit rates are just illustrative examples. We can do any actual bit rates (and corresponding monthly prices) between 2.4kbit/s and 5 Mbit/s. Carriers may be either as time slotted shared TDMA or dedicated SCPC carriers. TDMA is the most efficient. SCPC give the best VoIP voice quality. Your customer equipment: Multiple PCs may be connected using a switch and ethernet cables or by using a wired or wireless LAN router. Each site has 253 IP local addresses available. Servers may be connected, but caution is needed regarding traffic. Email servers are fine and so are web sites or data base servers whose traffic generated is compact. Servers generating vast data files such as video and audio file sharing servers should be avoided. VoIP phones may be used either to call one another via the network or to make calls to the PSTN via a gateway in Manchester UK. All VoIP phones have regular UK telephone numbers for incoming calls. The VoIP phones provided are portable wireless enabled type and are used in association with a Linksys wireless router connected to your satellite modem gateway. VoIP phone calls are free within the network but calls to the PSTN via the Manchester gateway, need to be paid for. You need to maintain discipline on your local users to stop abusive usage. |

Indicative Prices: Equipment
(per site): Monthly satellite charges (once per whole network): $ 7000 per month per Mbit/s. Examples: 25 sites, each with 3 PCs+VoIP phone. 50 sites, each with 3 PCs+VoIP phone. 100 sites, each with 3 PCs+VoIP phone. |
Traffic load: The amount of satellite capacity assigned to your system is a trade off of your budget versus the traffic demand from the end user PCs and VoIP phones. A VoIP phone needs 12kbit/s each way during a call. A virus on a PC, or 'greedy' applications like MP3 file sharing may quickly overload a network. The long term daily average traffic per PC is 15kbit/s receive download and 5 kbit/s transmit upload. If you allow the general public into your premises, the use of security hardware, like Guardianbox, to protect each local LAN from virus and user abuse is recommended. Delivery and Installation: The complete system may be set up, tested and demonstrated in the UK in the field adjacent to the main large teleport hub dish, using the same beam coverage as above to verify it works. The items will then be disassembled and shipped to customer sites. The customer is responsible for shipping charges and any import taxes and licences. The customer is responsible for equipment mounting and set up. Advice and instructions will be given. The customer is responsible for connecting up their local area network cabling, VoIP phones and PCs. Guidance will be provided regarding IP addresses, subnet mask and gateway router settings. Delivery and installation: Customer expense. |
