Rutel Networks - connecting Telecentres in Africa.

Rutel offer satellite network capacity in the Eutelsat W3A Africa beam, to connect Telecenters within any given country using 2 way-satellite transmission based on state of the art DVB RCS dynamic bandwidth assignment technology.  The satellite data bit rate capacity is used for internet browsing, emails, telephone voice calls using VoIP technology and fax send / receive service.

A typical Telecentre will include a satellite dish (96cm to 1.8m diameter) with a receiver download capacity of 1Mbps and transmitter upload capacity of 64kbps.  Connected to the satellite terminal will be several
conventional telephone handsets, several PC computers plus fax and printing facilities.

The idea is for local partners to operate the Telecenter and be responsible for all local activities, including equipment maintenance, personnel training and the retail advertising and distribution of VoIP telephone calling cards.  It is vital that the local Telecentre operators have a straightforward and reliable method of collecting the money from their customers and pre-paid calling cards are used in order to simplify the payment process and thus keep costs as low as possible

The success of any Telecenter or CyberCafe type enterprise is based on sharing the high cost of the satellites link amongst the local community of users, with the prospect of making each local project financially viable.

Dish sizes:  96cm, 1.2meters or 1.8meters Ku-band antenna systems with 2 watt BUC, according to location contour - see Africa coverage map.  Fringe areas and locations with excessive rainfall need larger diameter dishes, like 1.2 or 1.8 meters, plus 4 watt BUC.
