Voting NO in EU Referendum

From a concerned citizen in France...

Open Letter to my friends in Britain

I'm a French citizen opposed to the EU-Constitution, because of its total lack of democratic legitimacy. I'm going to vote NO on May, 29th (date of the referendum in France), as many friends of mine and at least half the population (that's what the polls say...).

But I really want to ask you: do everything possible to influence the media in France, because the media is almost totally in favour of the Constitution !

They often tell us that this new Treaty is a very democratic and social one, and that it was very hard to convince Great Britain to accept such a social vision of Europe !

They also repeatedly tell us that we in France are the only ones to have public services, and that we have to accept these services to become private in the long run because that's the case everywhere else in Europe.

I don't believe this Treaty to be social nor democratic. I rather believe it to be a very bad compromise between all diverging interests of the 25 nations of Europe. It doesn't solve the antidemocratic character of the european institutions. It offers very few social rights, most of them are under the dictature of the market. And this dictature is going to be reinforced with the ever-growing power of the Commission, which alone negotiates at WTO, in the dark, without us citizens to be able to say anything !

Please help us become a majority on 29th May ! Contact the French media and tell them that you in Britain share the same concerns and don't want this bad Treaty ! Tell them that you too have public services and a welfare state and don't want it to be broken by the far-too-powerful Commission !
