Starting 1st Dec 2005 I tried a new analysis. I applied Google Analytics Urchin tracking to about 60 of the most popular page. In March it all went wrong and I had a bad experience with the Urchin. I discovered that Norton Security some how interacted with the Urchin for a small percentage of visitors and affected their ability to view the pages. The problem seemed to be associated with the automatic Norton Security upgrade process. Not really resolved except by removing the tracker code from the html pages. Moral is: keep things simple and they work better !

When anyone makes this site a favourite, a favourite icon called favicon.ico is downloaded. These downloads are counted. For more details of how favourite icon = favicon.ico works click here Note that the count of favourite icons downloaded does not accurately reflect the number of visitors choosing to make a page on the site a 'favourite' since some browsers automatically call up the favicon.ico file anyway.

Some visitors have the SatSig Alexa toolbar - it tells them about the traffic stats for each site they visit and allows pop-ups to be blocked. The traffic graph scale below relates to the satsig.net position in the top 100,000 sites and not the absolute quantity of traffic. The figures are based on a very small sample of all visitors since very few people use the Alexa toolbar. I have noticed that if I use the toolbar for my day to day access to this site the access statistics go way up into the top 100,000 or top 50,000 so the graph below is rather meaningless unless your site is in the top 10,000 or so.
