| The Heimdall box ( Based on information from an EITRI news release dated the 6th March 2006 ) Heimdall is a box which you may locate between your local LAN and your VSAT satellite modem. It is a caching firewall and provides router and acceleration functions to help you get the most out of your satellite broadband connection. It was specially developed to combat the problems of satellite networking - latency and the high cost of bandwidth. The Heimdall maximises network connections by caching and controlling networking connections. This improves the effective bandwidth and makes the best use of the network infrastructure. The unit has recently passed interoperability tests with iDirect, so it
is particularly to be recommended for use by customers with iDirect VSAT
terminals Other useful link to the iDirect web site. (Warning: this is a one way link - you can't get back) The Heimdall box will be shown at Cabsat, March 7-9 2006 in Dubai. Hall 8 of the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre, stand C8-36. |
