Dual optics VSAT terminal dish

I have put further details here on this page about their INTELSAT 907 Ku band spot beam coverage of Ireland, the UK (England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland), as well as Portugal, Spain, France, Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland and part of Scandinavia.    There are also details further down the page about a variety of other services offered and a press release.

Tariam: INTELSAT 907 coverage

Tariam operate a Gilat 360e service on this on Intelsat 907 at 332.5 deg east orbit location, with excellent coverage of the UK, and good coverage up to as far as Iceland and most of Scandinavia, Germany, Switzerland etc. as well as France and Spain. The large hub earth station is the Intelsat teleport at Fuchsstadt in Germany.

In conjunction with Scottish Enterprise grants may be available to help businesses who are remote from ADSL phone lines or cable modem service.

I like this beam since it was the first one I ever used used for Satellite TV distribution in Europe.  We started with Sky Channel and expanded to 9 analogue FM TV carriers in total eventually.   I guess it has all has now gone digital and over on to the Eutelsat Hotbird and Astra satellites.   The beam is technically ideal for VSAT operation as it has high G/T on the uplink and thus means small dished with low power transmitters work well.

For Tariam's European coverage please go to Tariam's details on Europe satellite internet access service providers page.

Their services and products are geared towards the corporate market (large SME and Enterprise customers) although they are very happy with business from small companies and home users.  Business grade quality levels of installation, support and back-up are provided, so they aren't cheap and therefore don't always appeal to home users.

If you are in Spain or France please note they have forward engineering bases, with stock, and full time staff in Spain in Puerto Llano, and two bases in France, one in the north west at Kerino, near Merleac and one in the south east in Valbonne, Sophia Antipolis.   This means they can offer professional support and maintenance and fast fix times for mission critical sites in these countries.

Tariam press release:   London 17th August 2005 15.00 GMT   Business Satellite Broadband for Europe

UK Satellite Communications Company Tariam has announced today that it’s launching its managed VSAT solutions into Europe with immediate effect.

Tariam has provided bespoke VSAT services in other countries for some time now, but the launch of satellite broadband managed services means that cheaper ‘rate card’ pricing and rapid deployment times are now available in France, Portugal, Italy, and Spain as well as associated islands. Services are also available in the Republic of Ireland.

Tariam made its name providing business grade satellite broadband services for companies, and was the first satellite ISP to offer an unlimited data model on all its European services. Its customer base includes some of the best known construction and exploration companies in the world.

Communications Director Ben Cannon said:  “The launch of our off-the-shelf solutions abroad means that for the first time European companies and SOHO users will be able to quickly and cheaply take advantage of Tariam’s unique data, voice and fax services over satellite, as well as our advanced satellite VPN solutions.

We’ve experienced a considerable increase in enquiries from UK companies with remote offices and sites abroad and also individuals who want to be able to work and access corporate resources from 2nd homes overseas, and so today we are launching the services they need”.

Although there are other UK companies offering satellite broadband services in Europe most of them have no staff on the ground in country. Almost all of them also limit users to 1 or 2 GB a month of broadband traffic, which isn’t suitable for business users.

Ben went on to say:   “We’ve established Forward Engineering Bases in the North and South of France, and in Spain, where we have our own Engineers and carry stock to enable fast deployment and the sort of support services business users’ demand.

“Our site in Spain is also used as a stepping stone for our customers based in North Africa. Having people on the ground in Europe means that we can also offer our hire, disaster recovery and event services in Europe as well.

“Billing is all in local currencies so customers aren’t faced with exchange rate uncertainties”.
