Includes: UK, Europe, North Africa, Egypt, Turkey, Ukraine, Lithuania and parts of the Middle East. The 10 deg elevation contour line is my recommended lower limit for Ku band operation; so stay in the green area.

| The Vipersat network is now being expanded with modern
high-performance CDM570L satellite modems each with a imbedded IP routing,
to provide the interface between your LAN traffic and the satellite links
that connect remote stations to the hub and to each other. Network
management software allows the hub to set system configuration and manages
the protocol, modem, RF equipment and IP broadband networking. The satellite modems use the latest turbo products forward error correction codes (FEC) and modulation schemes and pulse shaping to produce unrivalled spectral efficiency which is just what I am looking to encourage so as to get the best value for money out of the space segment. The network management tool is called Vipersat Management System (VMS). This allows the modems to operate in dedicated SCPC mode, or if required, to share bandwidth based on application and data load. If you use the link only occasionally there is no point holding a link open all the time (and paying for it for all the time!). This effectively enables the network to better handle connection oriented applications and reduce network congestion. The VMS also allows for dynamic point to point connections to be established between remotes. For such "mesh" networking, larger remotes such as 1.2m or 1.8m diameter are recommended. Bit rates from 2.4kbit/s to 5 Mbit/s. The network image on the right illustrates the older SMR5000L or Datum PSM 4900L modem which use BPSK or QPSK modulation. We continue to offer service to anyone with SMR5000L or Datum PSM 4900L modems. In addition to example wireless laptops, as shown, you may use wireless VoIP phones. Up to 253 IP addressed devices may be connected at each site using a switch. Alternatively any number of devices may be connected if you use a local router to expand into your own private IP address space. |
