I have been running a Directway Satellite internet connection from the Bahamas for about a year.  I am using a DW600 modem and a Netgear rangemax wireless router.  About once every day or two, I have to reset the router because of lock-up.  Does anyone have a recommendation of how to fix this problem or which router might work better with this system?

Which is locking up? the router -- or the DW6000 ?

The router is the only thing I need to reset.  I have tried two different wireless routers over the past year and both seem to have the same issue.  I have used these routers in the states on bothe DSL and Cable with little issue.

Well, I'm dirt poor when it comes to router advice. But unless you have a static IP address, perhaps the issue is with the router locking up when Hughes changes your dynamic IP address (?)

I've had similar issues with this lockup/re-boot problem. One was a D-link DI-774, it would require re-boot about 1 to 2 times a week. I had Linksys WRT54g that was stable, but uploading some open source firmware changed the same box to a unit that required re-boot once a week. This same Linksys/DD-wert router works fine on my Hughes and iDirect system but locked up on a cable internet service. My simple solution to avoid the problem & trying to figure it out- put it on a cheap, simple electric timer, set it to turn off & on once a day, which is about what I'm about to do with a cable modem that has locked up 2 days in a row now.

Interesting....I would be interested to know if anyone has a particular router mfg that never has had this issue on a satellite link.  I have had good luck with the Linksys WRT54g tied to a cable modem.  I have never had it lock up.  If I don't get any other input, I'll give the timer a try.

I have another std. WRT54 on the same cable service and it works fine with std. firmware. As I said, the cable modem locked up  for 2 days each night, yesterday was fine, but it just appears to be a simple solution to automatically reboot them once a day, put all your problem equipment on it and forget about it. For me it's an easy solution for equipment at remote locations. Wish I would have done that for some remote sites in the past, but did not. Now I have to email to someone at another location and ask them to email another person and have them send someone to the problem location and do it manually.

I have a D-link DI-524 connected to DW7000 and have nothing but problems. The problems started the day I installed the di 524:)) I spent all day yesterday researching D-Link and other routers in general because I am getting ready to trash the D-link. The majority of reviews & articles on the different brands basically say that the D-link is a good cheap product. If you want quality and less problems go with NetGear. I was very impressed with one study that was done where they really put the routers through their paces. The results of all of their tests indicates that NetGear came out on top in almost all of the tests. The reason they gave is the difference in the chip sets. Dlink and I forgot the other brand use the same chips and Netgear and the other router uses the same chips.

So, I am getting rid of the Dlink wireless and purchased a netgear switch. I only have a 25ft run so I will be in good shape:))

Have also experienced data lock up using a netgear product.  Switched once and for all to linksys.  (most recent WRT54g wireless) with sveasoft's alchemy V1.0 firmwear

Last WRT54g I bought from ebay was $25 + shipping.
