Title: Need IDirect KU-Band Service Kampala Uganda
Post by 400Degrees on Sep 7th, 2007 at 7:28pm
Gentlemen,

In the process of looking for a VSAT solution into UGANDA. Our requirements are KU-Band Idirect service. We would need high bandwidth and perhaps a VNO solution. I am welcome to options.

To start 512/2mb dedicated, shared, or VNO
1mb/2mb
2mb/2mb
2mb/4mb

Hello Stanx,

Have a look at www.future-b.eu.  Ku-band on IS-10 (PAS10) is available on an iDirect platform, at different contention ratios - 1:4, 1:8, 1:16, 1:30 - as well as fully dedicated.

send an email to SubSafrica@future-b.eu.

Regards,
Jane Wanjiru

Don't forget to investigate the VSAT and/or ISP licensing requirements in Uganda.  It's my understanding that it's quite expensive.

You might also want to reconsider whether to use C-band instead of KU.  Uganda is tropical; generally rainy with two dry seasons (December to February, June to August).  Rain fade will be an issue and you'll end up needing dishes as large as C-band dishes to combat the rain fade.  C-band works much better in the rain.

Finally, there is a HUGE difference in the 3 options you mention.  The difference in available bandwidth and cost between "shared" and "dedicated" is significant.  A VNO requires a significant investment in line card equipment for a network operator's existing hub, as well as expertise in satellite operations.

It might be helpful to describe your plans and what you intend to use the VSAT bandwidth for so that you can get proposals for the best solution to meet your requirements.

Contact Bentley in the UK.  https://www.bentley-walker.com/
We are using them a few miles out of Kampala, as well as on both the east and west sides of DRC.  W3A sat, Ku band working great.

Dear Mr. Stanx,

I agree with Mr. Pat's idea to use C-Band instead of Ku-Band for the same reason.

If you are interested, please let me know. I can help you.
