Title: Changes Pending.....a tad confused!
Post by Lukio on Jan 2nd, 2008 at 2:07pm
Hey Guys,

I'm am newbie here so be be gentle!
I've got a changes pending on a remote in iBuilder but I'm not sure what changes have been made on the remote.  The changes are:

Active                                            Latest
[NET_ENC]                                    [NET_ENC]
id=1                                              id=4

Is it something to do with the VLANs?
For info it's on a NMII+ running 5_0_5 software.

Thanks in advance ;.)

Does your network use 3DES link encryption?

You would more than likely know it if you did, because your NMII+s would have integrated Hifn 7902 chips.....which support Link Encryption. Also, your Protocol Processors must have a Hifn 7951 or 7751 compatible PCI card installed in them (to support link encryption).  You can verify the presence of such hardware by using the lspci command at the prompt on the PPs.

Normally, the NET ENC portion of a NMII+ options file (that HAS link encryption enabled) looks like this:

[NET_ENC]
id = 35
is_encrypted = 1
enc_algorithm = 3DES
enc_static = 0
enc_key = "key at least 24 chars"
filter_non_ip = 1
enc_session_master = 0
enc_asym_key_bits = 2048
enc_key_rotate_ms = 7200000
enc_retry_ms = 4000

The above ENC is old school technology and iDirect has moved on to FIPS 140-2 (TRANSEC) these days.

iDS 5_0_5?  Wow!  No offense my friend, but I dont know of anyone using iDS 5.X these days.  Time to upgrade!!! :)

Cheers Mike...appreciate your answer.
Yes I know 5.0.5 is dinosaur now!  We're up to 7.0.5 on other networks though which I prefer a lot.
Thanks again ;.)
