Title: Hughes Return Channel protocol structure?
Post by TDMAMike on Feb 8th, 2008 at 12:06pm
Does anyone know (or have) the UPSTREAM (inroute/return) protocol structure for Hughes services (in the various FECs)?

This question might baffle some, but anyone with a tech background knows what I am asking for..it is a picture of the upstream frame detailing byte counts (with satellite overhead)... and it varies by FEC.

According to this
https://www.hughes.com/HUGHES/Doc/0/44IKT3O7EE7KVABMFSAP132T54/IPoS%20Work%20Item1.pdf

Outroute Satellite Transmission
IPoS outroute carriers use the standard DVB-S data format with multiprotocol
encapsulation for IP packets. IPoS supports symbol rates from 1
Msps to 45 Msps and forward error correction (FEC) Rates of ½, 2/3, ¾, 5/6
and 7/8.

Inroute Satellite Transmission
IPoS inroutes use offset quadrature phase-shift keying (OQPSK) modulation
with transmission rates of 64, 128, or 256 ksps with Rate ½ convolutional
encoding or with transmission rates of 128 or 256 ksps when Turbo FEC
encoding is used. [2]
IPoS uses demand-assigned MF-TDMA (multi-frequency time division
multiple access) on its inroutes to allow remote terminals to share bandwidth
efficiently. Remote terminals transmit data in variable-length “bursts” whose
lengths are proportional to the amount of data that a terminal has to send. [3]
