Hi Eric, or anyone who can help

I am totally new to this satellite thing. ???  I was chatting on MSN with a friend today from Canada who was telling me about the wonderful world of FTA TV.  So, I am trying to learn what I need & what I have to do.

At any rate I am a Canadian expat living in Seoul, South Korea.  There is very limited North American TV here.  Friends, Sex in the City, Law & Order X, and CSI X would be it for the shows along with some often repeated Hollywood movies.  I did a search on this forum for anything about Seoul and/or Korea to no avail.

Using the the Lat & Long finder link you gave in another thread: https://www.satsig.net/maps/lat-long-finder.htm and Google Earth to find my house:

My Lat is   : 37.5387
My Long is:126.991

In addition, I have been looking at: https://lyngsat.com/asia.html to try and find what's available and on what band.

I would like to know what size & type of dish and receiver I should be trying to obtain in order to, if at all possible,  maximize my ability to watch North American TV, as well as BBC, BBC World, Australian and any other English language programming I can get my hands on.  What would give me the most flexability/capability for the least investment?  That is, the biggest bang for my buck.

Any advice you can give on what I should be looking for, what I should be trying to learn, and where I can find the information, would be most appreciated.  I've also joined and am researching this forum: https://www.dsscommunity.com

Against each carrier, you need to click on the beam to find the beam coverage contour map and the key to suggested dish size.

You need a general purpose free to air (FTA) satellite TV receiver.

Note that there are carriers in both Ku band 10.7- 12.75 GHz or C band 5.625 - 6.4 GHz.

Outdoor antenna systems and LNBs tend to be specific to one band or the other so this choice seriously affects your choice of programs.   For C band, dishes are generally larger size.  Antennas may be fixed pointing or motor steerable, so you may choose from many satellites using your indoor controls.

Review Sadoun.com as a possible source of FTA equipment and antennas.

Thanks very much for answering so quickly.  I had figured out looking at the satellite links from https://lyngsat.com/asia.html  but not that I could find the beam coverage and recommended dish size there.

I will continue my research & hope to steepen my learning curve.  I have tried to search Korean electronics, TV, webportal, etc sites for the names of the major sat receiver brands with no luck.  But, my Korean sucks! :(

So using Sadoun.com, or something similar will probably be necessary, but then I'm into paying duty etc.  But we'll see.

When, not if, :) I have some more questions or need some advice I'll post another message.  Thanks again
