Title: iDirect 3100 modem pointing issues
Post by sentix2000 on Jun 27th, 2008 at 5:39pm
Hi,
I have an iDirect 3100 modem. I have rx lock but the voltage from the pointing tool and snr flunctuates crazily. It just goes from 10.7 to 9.3 to 8.4 and then 7.9 and the automatically back to 10.8 it  does this irrespective of the weather even on bright sunny days.

I have tried another lnb without success. I have changed cables no way. Please what can I do.

Check to see if the iDirect is seeing the same voltage fluctuations by typing rx snr from the prompt in telnet.  Try it several times and note any variance.  If you observe SNR variance on the iDirect you have an issue in your receive cabling or on the receive side of the idirect modem (or the Hub is having issues, but that is the least likely scenario).

I would venture to say you have a hardware problem with the modem itself or the receive cabling is going bad.  Can you replace the cabling?

Hi Mike,

thanks for your help. But I think I have an idea what was wrong with the installation. I got another feedhorn complete with lnb and tried it on the dish. It worked perfectly and I observed it for about an hour with cable A. But later I tried the second Cable B and the working lnb started behaving like the first lnb I was using and I think I have damaged the second lnb too.

So I think its the cable that has problem but please how does a bad lnb behave.

Thanks.

Leke
