Title: Usenet - Newsgroups Post by outbreak on Sep 2nd, 2008 at 6:23pm
Is anybody able to connect to a server? With my old internet, I could connect to a free usenet server, but since I got the HX50 I have not been able to connect. I'm not sure if it's the new router, or the satellite system.
Any ideas? Thanks! |

I'm pretty sure that I read that Hughes started blocking newsgroups this year.

Bentley Walker operate the HX network, we do not block newsgroups, however you may need to apply for a public IP in order to access them remotely. Please contact us at BW for further information.

@USN, we do not charge for a single public IP, which can be applied to the customers router, please do not base your comments on assumption as it adds confusion.

In my experience, "public IP" and "static IP" are synonymous. This is as opposed "private" or "dynamic" IP addresses. I don't personally know of a single consumer-grade internet service provider that doesn't apply dynamic addressing by default. If you actually provide a static IP address to your customers - at no charge - I commend you. So please - help me understand. What is the Bentley-Walker definition of a "public IP" address? //greg// |

Great! Thanks for the reply. Now I just have to figure out my MAC address for the router and the Site ID.

Outbreak, if you are referring to the application form then you can simply enter your modems ESN number, the site code is less important.
Greg, please feel free to PM any questions, so as not to clutter the thread. You have a PM. James |

Sir, how long does it take to get the static/public IP address? As you can see, I submitted the paperwork last week, and I have yet to hear anything about it.
Thanks. |
