I've successfully installed a Tariam system down here in south west Spain and it works well. Now I've added a PC running Windows Home Server, mainly so I can access my home system when away. BUT I'm having problems setting up my router for port forwarding. Anyone out there got experience of this?

The router is a D-Link DIR-635. I need TCP 80 for HTTP, TCP 443 for HTTPS and TCP 4125 for remote desktop proxy. I've tried setting these ports on the router, but I still can't access my WHS machine through the internet.

Any help much appreciated!

You need to read this document:

Each Tooway site has only a private IP address (except those on gold tariff, who have 4 private IP addresses). This means that to access to your specific site from the internet requires that Skylogic put a line in their Turin Skyport hub router configuration that forwards a public IP address to your Tooway terminal. You could then put port forwarding in your D-Link-DIR-635 router to the specific private IP address of the server PC in your LAN.

I also note that no site to site connectivity is provided. Anyone intending to equip several sites with Tooway needs to be aware of this as they won't be able to intercommunicate - amazing but this is what is says.

I doubt that Skylogic will set up a public IP routing for a particular customer as it is not in the document.

I've now moved forward a stage - I can access my home server by putting its IP address into a browser, but the domain name supplied by MS doesn't work. Hmmmm. Guess I need to tweak it some more.....

If you are at your Tooway site and have a PC as well as your server connected to your LAN router, you are accessing your server via its local private IP address. That is normal and to be expected.

Would an IP service like https://www.dns2go.com/ work?

DNS2Go is a Dynamic DNS service that enables Internet users to host their own domain name, even if they have a dynamic IP address or are behind a router. Use DNS2Go to host: Remote Access, Email servers, Surveillance cameras, Web servers and any other type of service.

I'm away from my site right now - working offshore - and I failed to resolve this issue before setting off. A bummer really because I wanted the ability to monitor the site while away. Maybe the only way is to set up a system that uploads webcam images etc to a website on a regular basis, or when triggered to do so. But in addition to that I wanted to be able to access my home server so that I could retrieve files while away, and no solution to that problem has emerged as yet.

If anyone has any more ideas.........

Mick did you try the dns2go option? I cannot see why that would not work.

Open the RDP port on your computer and also on the router.

If you are having trouble with your router try portforward.com it has visual guides for every router!

Install the dns2go client software on the computer and then you just need to use the domain you setup with them to connect.

There is a 30 day trial to get it going and its only $20 a year so it aint gonna break the Bank!

Meanwhile, as  Tariam customer it seems I have other problems to sort out! My connection still works, but I have yet to find out whats going to happen if or when Tariam plunge into the abyss......

Andrew Walwyn, at Satellite Solutions Worldwide (SSW), has told me that SSW took over the Tariam website and systems of Tariam in late 2008.  He wishes to disassociate SSW from the old Tariam business. The Tariam web site: https://www.tariam.co.uk/ has been updated, retaining the Tariam name.  They are reselling Satlynx and Skylogic Tooway services.

iam a experianced sattellite fitter 26 years

rec i installed a 2way dish on a spectrum
now i admit bcas the chimney was not straight we had signal problems

but then we got the head straight all was good

then 6 weeks later the client was getting problems


we went back cos tooway said its the dish

bull

dish and system had been working for 7 weeks then went slow

dish on the spectrum  no movement

me thinks

they cocked up

again
if you are a pro fitter like me avoid the tooway help line are rubish

my advice to tooway get some staff who know what there on about

rant over 6 hours on a job that paid diddly even tho we installed and hit in 46 mins the other hours are helpline  zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

--> Did you informed the end user about traffic limits ?
--> Have a look at his usage.
--> Tooway helpline ?
