Title: DW6000 or HN7000S?
Post by Janin on Feb 9th, 2009 at 4:08pm
After my DW6000 went bad the 2nd time I bought another one and was able to register it online myself on my "Home" plan doing an equipment swap.

I also bought an HN7000S and now wonder, whether...

- I can put it into service myself like the DW6000?
- the HN7000S would give me higher up and down speeds on my existing plan or would I have to upgrade to "Pro" to exploit the HN7000's capabilities?

Thank you for any help.

My advice is to contact HughesNet Billing department and give them the modem serial number. Ask them to confirm that the serial number is not black-listed. That is; the former owner paid his account up to date, and the modem itself is cleared for re-commissioning.

If the HughesNet response is in your favor, they should then point you in the right direction for replacing the 6000 with your 7000. Be warned though, your old 6000 dish and cabling may not be up to snuff for the newer 7000 series modem.
