Title: ROUTER NEEDED
Post by amigobill on Mar 21st, 2009 at 2:11pm
HELLO,
I am deployed in Iraq and have Hughes Personal Earth Station with LNB 1024572-001 or NJR2184HH. I am looking to buy a ROUTEER compatable with this LNB. Any help with router p/n and where to get the satellite internet package for it?

Thanks

Router selection is completely independent of which satellite hardware you may have. Or of what TYPE of connection for that matter. The same router can often be moved from a satellite connection to a DSL connection to a cable modem connection to a WiFi connection, without conflict.

As long as they conform to Ethernet standards, they're all compatible. Base your router selection upon which one satisfies your end-user requirements.

We are  trying to setup Satellite Internet Connection using this LNB and dish. But we don't have the Satellite Modem (Router).
My questin is: Which satellite modem "Router"I can buy to have a complete satellite internet network? Does it have to be  Hughes modem? what about Hughes DW6000 or DW7000 Modem? Thanks.

Ah. Modem and router are two entirely different components. The modem is the (Hughes) device that interfaces your computer (or router) to the dish with coax cables. A router on the other hand, uses strictly Ethernet cabling - and is used to interface multiple computers and network-capable peripherals with the modem.

Can't speak for Hughes NOCs outside  CONUS , but I will speculate that the same thing is going on in both places. Here the entire DW-series is being phased out in favor of the HN-series. The DW6000 isn't even supported anymore, and the DW7000 is next on the list. In the Ku-band realm, it's been replaced by the HN7000S. I believe over there you also may have the option of going to the PES-series and the HX-series - but there may be compatibility issues with your outdoor hardware.

I suggest you browse to the home page here, and review the lists of European and Middle East providers. Many of them should be able to fill in your equipment gaps, and provide a modem that's compatible with their respective networks.
