Title: Satellite Internet as a business model in Africa
Post by Mundoza on Jun 8th, 2009 at 5:01pm
My apologies if this topic has been discussed before, I am new here, I am also a novice in this area but am looking for a business opportunity if at all its feasible.

How feasible is it to have a countrywide Satellite Internet Service in a country like Mozambique? I am looking at a situation with a simple structure like that of Satellite TV were a user has a PC connected to broadband modem connected to a satellite dish outside the home or office which obviously has an LNB for connection to the Satellite. Is something like this feasible? If so can anyone provide more information in relation to the technical aspects of it?. What kind of equipment is required, who is doing it and which satellite companies can provide such services? I am looking at a situation were its possible to sell a customer a package in which they get their equipment and set up then pay a fixed monthly charge. Mozambique is just an example that I used for purposes of this. Do Satellite companies do something like this or its a case of them selling to one company which then handles its own numerous customers? I am just brainstorming here. Hope you can help.

This satsig.net web site was set up in 1999 to help and encourage new companies to set up satellite internet access services for places that needed such a service.

Initially there were too few companies; now there are too many.  For Africa see: Africa satellite internet service providers

I would encourage you to become a local reseller of a service so that you can add value by dealing with the customers personally, helping them with the installation and pointing of their dish, configuration of their satellite modem and set up and maintenance of their their local area network (wired or wireless) for their end user customer PCs.

Best regards, Eric.

Look at IsoTropic (www.isosat.net). They have a reseller program in place.

Em,
Could you please get me in-contact with the US company also.
I work for a Kenyan Satellite operator and would be interested to resell the services.

My email is nmuttai@commcarrier.com
