Title: noc can't see my terminal
Post by EDWIN on Jun 22nd, 2009 at 10:57am
hello guys,
am installing net modem 3000 series on a particular network. i have a signal (rx) lock but when called upon my noc to activate the terminal all they could say is that they can't see me.what could be wrong the installation having obtaining the option file from the noc and using it track have an rx lock. am new to idirect installation. i asked someone he told that the acqrange on the option file i have wasn't complete.that it supposed to in millions but what i have is in 35000. could it be the problem ro what is the actual value of acqrange.
thank you

Questions:

1) Can they reset your terminal (since you stated that you have an rx LED)?
2) Does your modem's tx LED illuminate ever?  Even briefly?
3) Can you telnet to the modem?  If so, I want you to run the command acq on Can you see ACQ sweep commands destined for your box?  You should if the hub has you activated.

If they havent already done so, have the Hub or Controllers bring you up CW on a lonely chunk of transponder.  Pop it up CW (pure carrier) followed by modulated (PN) carrier and confirm the Tx IF/RF chain is good.  Once that is confirmed, you can start looking at the options file.

Questions for the Hub:

1) Are there other customers using the network you presently reside in (If so, it is unlikely there is an acquisiton range issue).
2) Are you activated and has your activation status been applied to the hub?

Best guess, (based on what I hear)....I am thinking you have an issue with your BUC/SSPA or possibly a faulty cable on the uplink chain.  That or the hub does not have you activated (unlikely, but possible).

thanks,
answers to your questions?
1) they can't reset the modem (they can't see it on their hub)
2) the tx led just blinking on yellow status
3)yes, i can telnet inside the modem very well

questions for the hub
1)yes, there are other customers using the same link (noc). the satellite am pointed to is NSS10.
2) noc said that they have applied the activation status but i don't know whether it is done or not.

regards to the buc it is okay. but i thaught that the noc supposed to see my terminal first looking into the tx issue if there will be any.i have also done a cable swap but that couldn't help.

So they have actaully tried to reset it (with UDP) and had no luck?

Just so you know, a UDP push (with reset) is fire and forget and you dont have to have a link up, a recieve LED (on your modem) is all that is required (implied: you are on the right spacecraft).

The above leads me to my next statement - If you in fact have a Recieve light, and they are not able to reset you with a UDP push, then you are possibly peaked on the wrong spacecraft (possibly an adjacent craft, with a carrier in the same MHZ you are using on the NSS10).  Have them attempt to reset you with UDP (again) and see if the unit reboots.  Make sure they confirm you are activated!  If you have a solid receive and No Tx whatsoever, leads me to believe you are not activated or on the wrong craft.

From telnet, I want you to run the acq on command.  If you DO NOT see scrolling ACQ messages, then you are on the wrong craft.  While you are at it, check your rx snr while you have the telnet session established.

Ok - Need to know what the RX SNR is. If the RX SNR is on the threshold you will get a green RX lock but it will not TX.

Next - Once you console in and type acq on, you should see a scrolling ACQ messages. Take a close look at the begining of the string and see if the symbol is alternating from * to #. If so that indicates ACQ sweep coming in and going out. To stop the ACQ messages just type acq off.
